After a long wait of a couple of years due to restrictions imposed in order to stop the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, at the beginning of January 2023, the centennial and traditional procession of the Divine Shepherdess (Divina Pastora) through the streets of the city of Barquisimeto resumed.
This popular Catholic event has been held every January 14 since the middle of the 19th century, and consists of carrying on the shoulders of this image made of polychrome wood that represents an invocation of the Virgin Mary in the form of a shepherdess with sheep, and the baby Jesus in her arms; in a long walk of just over 7 kilometers, starting from the neighboring town of Santa Rosa to the Metropolitan Cathedral.
After the New Year's celebrations, the preparations begin, which include a great number of events, reaching its climax on the 14th when hundreds of thousands, or even millions of parishioners accompany the Virgin in a journey that usually lasts between 5 to 6 hours under an inclement sun and intense heat.
As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.
Luego de una larga espera de un par de años por las restricciones impuestas a fin de frenar la propagación de la pandemia de Covid-19, a principios del mes de Enero de 2023, se reanudó la centenaria y tradicional procesión de la Divina Pastora por las calles de la ciudad de Barquisimeto.
Este concurrido evento del catolicismo, se realiza cada 14 de Enero desde mediados del Siglo XIX, y consiste en llevar en hombros esta imagen elaborada en madera policromada que representa una advocación de la Virgen María en forma de una pastora de ovejas, y al niño Jesús en sus brazos; en una larga caminata de poco más de 7 kilómetros, partiendo del vecino poblado de Santa Rosa hasta la Catedral Metropolitana.
Luego de los festejos de Año Nuevo, se inician los preparativos que incluyen una gran cantidad de eventos, alcanzando su punto culminante el día 14 cuando cientos de miles, o incluso, millones de feligreses acompañan a la Virgen en un recorrido que suele durar entre 5 a 6 horas bajo un inclemente sol y un intenso calor.
Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
