The iconic Potala Palace does impress. It's located in the capital of Tibet – Lhasa, 4000 m. above sea level. Even from a distance, this building is visible. Since 1994 this palace has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list. It was the home of the Dalai Lama, but today it functions as a museum. Only parts of it is open to the public.
