đˇ When the Predator is a Pebble: Life Lessons from a White Spider in My Garden
Spiders. Not uncommon in Belgium. Not uncommon in my garden. Unfortunate for my kidsâespecially the boysâwho act like an eight-legged apocalypse has arrived every time they see one. But hey, someoneâs gotta play the role of fearless protector. Guess thatâs me. (Back in my day, we didnât call Dad for a spiderâwe just moved out.)
Now, Iâm not one to flinch at a spider. Normally, theyâre your standard garden-variety eight-legged freelancers keeping the bug population in check. But this time⌠this time I saw something different.
A white spider.
Like full Stormtrooper aesthetic. Tiny. Alien. And it was doing the unthinkable: devouring an insect easily three times its size. I swear this thing was the David Goggins of spidersââYou think size matters? STAY HARD.â
So obviously I did what any tech-loving, photography-obsessed dad would do. I grabbed my iPhone 11 Pro Max, slapped on the Moment macro lens like I was suiting up for battle, and got down to bug-level for a closer look. Because letâs face itâwhen nature gives you a scene straight out of National Geographic, you donât just watch, you document.
đ The Shot
Zoom in. Focus. Boom.
There it was:
⢠The spiderâs ghostly-white legs locked around its prey.
⢠A bee or a hoverfly (hard to tell through all the âoh crap Iâm dinnerâ energy).
⢠Lavender petals in the background, as if Mother Nature thought this moment needed some soft lighting and bokeh.
Suddenly this wasnât just photography. It was a life lesson.

đ¸ 3 Things This Spider Taught Me About Life (Yes, Really)
Size Doesnât Mean Jack.
That insect was way bigger than our little white assassin. But did the spider hesitate? Nope. It locked in, committed, and executed. Moral: Stop crying about ânot having enough resourcesâ or âbeing too small to compete.â Just start. The spider didnât even have a business plan.Patience Pays.
This spider didnât chase its prey down like a caffeinated Golden Retriever. It waited. Perfectly still. Strategic. And when the opportunity came, it struck. If youâre over here rushing your goals because Instagram told you â10x in 30 days,â maybe chill. Focus. Build quietly. Strike loud.Adapt and Conquer.
The spider didnât set up a classic web trap. Itâs a crab spiderâan ambush predator. It blends in with flowers like some creepy albino ninja. When the usual tactics donât work, evolve. Pivot. Do whatever it takes.

đ¸ Tech Nerd Sidebar: The Gear
Shot on an iPhone 11 Pro Max with a Moment Macro Lens. And let me just sayâif youâre not already slapping Moment lenses on your phone, youâre missing out. The level of detail I pulled off? Bananas. You can practically count the pores on the spiderâs butt. (Please donât.)
⸝
đ Meanwhile, in the HouseâŚ
Of course, while Iâm outside macro-shooting natureâs brutal food chain, my kids are inside plotting full-on relocation plans because âthere might be spiders in the house too.â
One of them even asked if we should âburn the lavender bushâ to be safe.
(Spoiler: weâre not burning anything.)
⸝
đ Final Thought
That little white spider isnât out here complaining about the odds. Itâs winning in silence, proving to every insect in the neighborhood that the quiet ones are the scariest.
Maybe next time youâre doubting yourself because the competition âlooks bigger,â remember the spider. Get still. Get strategic. Then go full savage when the moment comes.
And for Godâs sakeâgrab your macro lens. The worldâs cooler up close.
