Hi dear Hivers in Cinnamon Cup Coffee community, today I would like to write about the ripe coffee season in my country. As you may know, Vietnam is the second largest coffee exporter in the world. And my hometown, Daklak province, is known as the coffee capital of Vietnam. And my family also has coffee farm and we are also a coffee producer. I grew up with the coffee farm and I think I understand it thoroughly. So it's my honor today to write about it today.
Late November and early December every year is the ripe coffee season in my hometown. The sign is when the wildflowers bloom. At this time of year, if you come to visit my hometown, you can smell the aroma of ripe coffee beans everywhere. The vast coffee farms are cover with the red color of the ripe coffee. When I was a child, I often picked ripe coffee beans and ate them, the coffee pods are sweet. There are both Arabica and Robusta coffee in my hometown. For me, I prefer the mix. I often take 50% Arabica and 50% Robusta for my cup of coffee. I'm not sure about you guys, but I find ripe coffee beans so beautiful.
During this time of year, the farmers in my hometown are really busy. They usually wake up early in the morning to go the the farm to harvest the coffee and go back home in late afternoon. When the coffee is ripe, the farmers have to be rush to harvest them because they will turn into too ripe and landfall soon. It's much more difficult to harvest the coffee when they are on the ground. In the worse case, if it rains, the farmers have more difficulty to harvest the coffee and the coffee landfalls sooner.
Despite of the hardship, the farmers are so happy during this time because they can reap the rewards after a year of hard work. Ripe coffee beans are not only the rewards but also the pride for the farmers after a hard working year. You may not know that to make those ripe coffee beans, the farmers had to do a lot of work. After harvesting, they will prune the coffee trees, followed by fertilizing and watering. In the dry season, they have to water the coffee trees again, and after the rainy season they have to clean up the weeds so they don't absorb the coffee tree's nutrients. In short, to have such beautiful coffee beans, the farmers have to put a lot of effort and time, so we should be grateful to them for delicious cups of coffee.
There are two main methods to harvest coffee in my hometown, which are picking by baskets and picking with mats. For coffee trees with a low ripening rate, farmers will use baskets to selectively pick ripe coffee cherries. This method will take more time. For coffee trees with a ripeness rate of over 80%, farmers will use mats to pick all of them. This method is much faster. After picking up the coffee cherries, they will store in big bags and transported to the farmer's home. And you know what the most popular vehicle to transport the coffee from farm to home in my hometown is the farm vehicles. These transportations are from China, and they are really suitable to carry things in my hometown with mountainous terrain and dirt roads.
