What to do on a rainy day in Dawlish

Well Hivers I was in Dawlish a small seaside town about 30 minute drive away or about 20 minutes on the train from Newton Abbot, if that’s your bag, to do a bit of shopping. One of the nice things about Dawlish is there are still a lot of small local independent shops including a very good butcher. But what do you do when it suddenly starts to tip it down, with a real heavy spring thunderstorm.

Go to the Le Cygne of course. This little coffee shop Deli combo is about the closest thing I can find locally to a classic French Patisserie and it’s amazing. Next to the park and about 5 minutes walk up from the rail station it’s a good stop even if it’s not raining.

A little more expensive than your average Devon tea shop but the quality is fantastic and a great way to waste 30 minutes while you wait for the rain to stop so you can walk back to the car. There are a good varied selection of cakes in the coffee shop side but I am a sucker for Cheesecake.

Their Raspberry Cheesecake was about 50mm think and really hard to resist. The base was nice buttery but crispy and the topping was light and fluffy almost like a mousse the raspberry topping was perfect with that fresh fruit sharpness and sweetness combination.

They give you a really good size portion to go along side your cappuccino which makes you feel a bit better about the price. The coffee was milky but still had a strong coffee taste with a good helping of coco powder on top no fancy show off patterns just a nice straight no fuss cappuccino.

So there you go Hivers, Le Cygne coffee shop one not to miss if your passing and I’ll defiantly be going to call in again on my next trip to Dawlish.
