Wednesday was the first sunny day for ages in South Devon so rather than sit around all day I decided a train ride up to Exeter was a good plan.
I think the train from Newton to Exeter must be one of the nicest in Devon. It runs down the River Teign Estuary then with along the sea wall between Teignmouth and Dawlish Warren, finally up the Exe Estuary to Exeter 30 minutes of the nicest views going on a sunny day.
So the Perfect place for an al fresco coffee is the cathedral courtyard and much nicer than one of the coffee chains like Starbucks. It’s away from all the traffic and reasonably quiet and they now have a coffee van that serves a good brew and part of the profits go to Exeter Cathedral no bad thing it cost a fortune to maintain.
The Ten Fifty coffee van serves ethically sourced fresh coffees and teas, cold drinks, cakes and snacks. The van is ethical too as it all electric.
If you wondering about all the vans, for a bit of added interest the Police were using the cathedral for their sniffer dog training. It did seem to put a few people off going in or that could just have been the £7.50 entry fee to visit the Cathedral but don’t let that put you off.
Founded in 1050 but mostly built between the 12th and 14th centuries. The medieval cathedral has the longest stone vaulted roof in the world. Guaranteed to give you a crick in the neck.
Maybe Hivers I’ll do a full post on the cathedral one day.
