Coffee & Latte artworks.

Latte art on coffee
The perfect finish to a quality cup of coffee. The elegance of artwork elevates the experience to a whole new dimention, with smooth steamed milk over a contrasting coffee, creating the perfect canvas.

This is an image of a cup of instant coffee I made at home with frothed milk.

The difference between steamed & frothed milk
Steamed milk is made up of micro bubbles which gives it a smooth texture unlike any other. A wand from a coffee machine is best for steaming milk, as the wand blasts pressurized steam into the milk. As the milk continues to have steam blasted into it the air bubbles collide with each other , as well as with the milk jug. The wand allows for two things :

  • Effective milk steaming and texturing
  • Heating and temperature.

Frothed Milk
Milk can be effectively frothed using a French press or coffee plunger.
The significantly notable difference with frothed milk is the larger size of the air bubbles. Frothing milk allows for air to be pumped into the milk , but the lack of pressurized steam means that the air bubbles are not colliding with each other as much. Thus the air bubbles are much larger, making the texture slightly undisirable.

The Practice Of Pouring Latte Art
Pouring quality latte artwork takes time and practice, as well as many cups of coffee to be made. A very good means of practicing how to texture milk, is by using a combination of dish washing liquid in some water. This combination produces a thickened texture that is very similar to milk once steamed. This will improve ones ability to effectively texture milk.

Tapping & Swirling
Once frothing or steaming has been completed, some large bubbles may still be visible.

  • Tapping : The process of knocking the milk container against a surface to pop large air bubbles

-Swirling : The process of making the milk circle around the container it, with the purpose of eliminating large air bubbles and creating a shiny smooth milk texture.

These two techniques can drastically help to improve the texture of milk , but can be overdone. Thus spoiling the overall texture
