Celebrating Christmas 2022 in central London

Christmas is a time for family, friends, and tradition. But sometimes, things don't always go according to plan.
We initially thought we would be celebrating Christmas at home, snuggled up by the fireplace with our loved ones. But as it turns out, our daughter decided to jet off to Italy for the holidays and our friends expressed a desire to meet up in London, we packed our bags and our son too (joking of course 😂), and headed off to the land of tea and crumpets for a very international Christmas.
It was a bit of a change from our usual routine, but we made the most of it and had a wonderful time exploring the city and enjoying each other's company.

In the end, it's not about where you celebrate Christmas, but who you're with. Right?! 😃 And we were with lovely friends and family, so it was a holiday to remember.
Since we were spending Christmas Day with friends, some of whom lived in central London, we all decided to take a leisurely stroll down the Thames after lunch.

Was really considerate, especially for the Italian family friends who had travelled here to celebrate the holiday, but also for the London family's little dog, Daisy, who needed most.

And it was so exciting to experience more of the Christmas spirit in London.

Since London is renowned for its wet and frequently overcast weather, it was a gorgeous day even without clear blue skies and sunshine. A walk down the Thames may be a lovely and joyful experience, even on an overcast or wet day though it wasn't pouring yet. 😂

As we strolled along the river, we marvelled at the stunning views of the city skyline and the iconic landmarks that lined the riverbank. We passed by the Tower Bridge, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, the OXO Tower and the Blackfriars , each one more impressive than the last.

As we walked, we chatted and laughed with our friends and family, enjoying each other's company and the festive atmosphere of the city. There were so many people out and about, all enjoying the holiday season and the beautiful atmosphere.

Eventually, we stopped at a charming little café along the river and sat down to rest and enjoy a cup of tea and some hot cocoa. Daisy was exhausted, poor little dog, she could't keep it up with us and she was carefully placed in her cozy bag keeper.

As we sipped our drinks and watched some boats go by, we couldn't help but feel grateful for the wonderful day we were having and for the special people we were with.

After our break, we continued on our walk, taking in all the sights and sounds of the city and at last some rain too. 😂

However, even on a cloudy or rainy day, a walk along the river Thames can be a delightful and enjoyable experience.
The river itself is always a sight to behold, with its winding path through the city and the many iconic landmarks that line its banks. Rainy days give the city a distinct, more reflective atmosphere, which makes the city's sights and noises even more remarkable.

Additionally, the rain can bring out the beauty of the city in its own way, with the streets and buildings glistening in the dampness and the reflections of the cityscape shimmering on the wet surfaces of the river.

So even if the weather wasn't ideal for the whole stroll, a walk along the Thames can still be a wonderful way to spend Christmas day with family and friends if you want to soak yourself in the jolly London atmosphere..
It was an unusual way for us to spend a joyful and unforgettable Christmas day with the people we care about but we absolutely loved it. ✨✨
