Greetings!
I can't even remember the last time I woke up from sleep, spent up to 1 hour either in bed or moving around the house without letting the sound of music circulate in my room or get plugged into my ears. Yes, I can't remember, and my brother, who has been living with me (though on and off), has gotten used to it and dares not complain. Lol.
I'm the music type—so addicted to my ears collecting sounds of music always. One interesting thing about the kind of music I play is that it’s not usually liked by a lot of people, and I think that’s what makes me unique.
Why do I always go for music over podcasts?
To be very sincere here, I find podcasts to be a more serious thing, adding to how overly serious the world already is. Oh yeah, I'm not a very serious person; I love things that'll get me going easily instead of making me think deeply about life. I know that there are also funny and lighthearted podcasts, but no, I prefer to stick to music more because the songs I listen to aren’t always rich in lyrics, as people typically prefer. Yes, I'm just different, and I love it.
For me, music does wonders to my soul, even if the songs aren’t passing along deep messages. I listen to music based on my love for artists, lyrics most times, and, majorly, the situation I came across the music in.
When it comes to the love of artists, there are some that I follow religiously. Anything they sing interests me, and I would just listen, listen, and listen, dancing to the best of their songs. I can't mention many here, but the likes of Mo’Hits (D’banj, Don Jazzy, and co.), Psquare, Chocolate City crew (M.I and Co.), and some of these recent guys in the industry are among them. In case you don't know, I'm a big fan of old music. I find it interesting, and I think older music has more magic as it ages.
As for lyrics, M.I and some other artists who sing with meaningful words are my go-to. Just like M.I—he raps, and his words are always aligned and real. He doesn’t use 'un-hearable' sounds to cover up some lines. When I'm listening to songs with good lyrics, it makes me think, "Yes, there are really people out there making creativity look simple."
When it comes to liking songs based on the situation I first heard them in, that’s on another level entirely. Each time I play a song I liked because of the situation it was connected to, my mind always goes back to reminisce on that situation. Often, this makes me want to reach out to someone if it’s someone who holds the memory, and I haven’t heard from them for a long time.
So, you see, music has it for me, and it's so hard for me to sit down, turn on my phone, and listen to people talking.
Does that mean I don't listen to preaching?
