the sample of the day was a follow-up of yesterday's piano mover by Blue Dot Sessions, but this time it had a bluesy groove to it.

even though i am struggling with the time to focus in depth on the exercise of creating a song per day (or at least manipulating a sample somehow), today i did manage to put a little more into it and i ended up with a mix of samples i've flipped from different songs.

a quick look at the drum rack i've pieced together on this one shows it's made of sounds taken from songs by Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones, and Booker T and the MG's. the reason there are so many samples from Quincy Jones is because i took different variations of the snare rolls.

then, of course there's the sample that served as the main theme for the song (mentioned above), which serves as the opener and was laid on its own track.

once you hear the song you may be surprised it's a piano, and it may sound like a guitar. that's because today i was focusing on playing with effects and automation, and also with reversing the sound here and there. lot's of cutting back forth.

as for the other instruments:

the bass is the usual. i don't think i have mentioned this before but i am mostly using Shreddag3 Precision Free for Kontakt as my bass of choice. i really like the way you can tune the pickups to sound more or less metallic, for when you need to add a little more slappy feel. and i just love the overall sound of it.

i also threw in a reggae rhythm guitar. for that i used UJAM's Virtual Guitarist Iron.

then, the voices. i have this limitation where i really can't sing. i don't like it. it doesn't feel as it's something in my nature in the same way i feel when i play an instrument. so again, samples. these are from a pack, and again from Cymatics. and again, lots of cutting back and forward. here's how everything looks:

i might return to this one. but for now, it was an exercise.
again, one track per day to keep the doctor away. that's the whole point.

hope you dig.
