Japanese Bosozoku Rally On The Highway 12/30/2023

On the way to the mountains yesterday morning my daughter and I encountered unusual traffic on the highway. The culprits soon became evident when two cars passed us.

There appeared to be a rally of Bosozoku at one of the service areas on the highway to Mt. Fuji. For reference, Bosozoku are Japanese biker gangs that have expanded to include cars. Service areas are rest stops on the highway that offer gasoline, food & gifts. The reason for service areas is the highways in Japan are all toll roads so you can't get off until your destination unless you want to pay more money in tolls. Service areas solve this.

It appeared the rally was going to be held at the Dangozaka service area as the amount of cars increased the closer we got.

I have to admit, I have always like the crazy Japanese car modifiers. They do some creative things to their cars that really make no sense to me, but are impressive none the less.

The 6 foot tall exhaust pipes seem to be a new trend.

And then we came upon the boss.

A Lincoln Continental Mark 4.

The Lincoln stood out because it was the only American car I saw. It was clean and had dual exhaust. A real treat to see.

When we got to Dangozaka service area it seemed the police were not letting the Bososzoku rally in, so they parked along the expressway. All kinds of cars were there including a Kei truck.

The Bosozoku bikers were there as well.

Then came consolation prize winners.

The Mini Cooper with the exhaust riding back seat.

Actually I don't think it's a Mini Cooper, they just spray painted that on the side.

And with that we passed the rally and the traffic jam. I didn't mind being late after seeing all the cars. It was actually a nice way to start the day on what would have otherwise been just another eventless drive on the highway.

Thanks for reading!
