I hadn't been home in a while, so I took a break from work to do some gardening with my mother (Okan).　The aloe that I had been growing since before we moved to Sweden had grown quite large, and to my surprise, the pot seemed to have cracked due to over-rooting.　So we decided to plant that aloe in the ground.

久しぶりに実家に帰ってきたので、仕事の合間を見て母親（オカン）と一緒にガーデニングをしました。　スウェーデンに引っ越しする前から育てていた、アロエがかなり大きくなって、なんと根が張りすぎて鉢が割れたようです。　そこで、そのアロエを地植えにすることを決めました。

I was temporarily studying in California and there was a very large aloe crowd at the university I attended.　I remember seeing beautiful vermilion flowers of the aloe at the university campus.　Perhaps aloe will grow big here in Osaka.　At this time, temperatures are rising in Osaka, and it seems that we will have warm weather (kinda) like California from spring to fall, so I am looking forward to the future growth of aloe.　This aloe was an indoor gardening aloe that I bought for 100 yen in Tokyo, but it has grown quite large now.

一時的にカリフォルニアの南部にある大学に留学していたことがあるのですが、わたしが通っていた大学にとても大きなアロエの群衆がありました。　そこで、きれいな朱色の花を咲かせていたのを思い出しました。　ひょっとしたらこの大阪でもアロエが大きく育つかもしれません。　この頃は大阪でも気温が上昇し、カリフォルニアのような温かい気候が春から秋にかけてはなるようで、今後のアロエの成長が楽しみです。　このアロエは東京で１００円で買った室内園芸用のアロエだったのですが、今ではかなり大きくなりました。

My mother seems to be very friendly with her neighbors, giving away camellia seedlings she is growing, persimmons and plums from her garden, etc. to the neighbors.　I think this is a very nice thing to do, and I admire it.　It seems that in my neighborhood in my hometown in Osaka, there are still many such neighborhood friendships, which I thought was very nice to hear.

We decided to plant cacti in the ground that a neighbor gave to my mom as a gift in return.　I thought it would be fun to plant them in the ground and watch them grow.　It is cold in Osaka in the winter, but these cacti seem to have survived the winter this year.　This may be due to global warming, but cacti can now grow outside in Osaka.

オカンは近所づきあいがうまいようで、自分が育てている椿の苗をあげたり、庭でなった柿、スモモなどを近所の人にあげているようです。　とてもいいことだなぁと感心しています。　大阪の下町ではそのような近所づきあいがまだまだあるようで、話を聞いていてとてもいいなと思いました。

近所のひとからお返しとしてもらったサボテンを地植えにすることにしました。　鉢にうえて育てていると、水やりも大変だし、地植えにするときっと大きくなって成長を見るのも楽しいと思ったのです。　大阪も冬は寒いのですが、このサボテンたちも今年の冬はかれずに越冬できたようです。　これも温暖化が原因なのか、サボテンも大阪では外で成長が可能になってきました。
