A Recent Photo
My recent photos were taken at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Illinois, USA
As of June 3, 2024, the Lincoln Park Zoo's gorilla troop has six gorillas:
Djeke: The son of Bana
Rollie: A female gorilla
Mondika: The son of Rollie
Bahati: A female gorilla
Bella: The daughter of Bahati
Silverback Kwan: The leader of the troop
The dominant female, Bana, died last week of congestive heart failure. She was 29 years old.
Gorilla's in the wild have a life expectancy of 30-40 years
Despite years of civil unrest in the region where mountain gorillas live, conservation efforts have found success. Findings show populations in the Virunga Massif have grown to 604 individuals, up from 480 individuals in 2010. This puts the total global wild gorilla population over 1,000 individuals.
