Hi everybody!

There is a large number of investigations on brain topics nowadays and the cognitive neuroscience of mind is still evolving. Let’s see together some of the main approaches to the human brain and decide for ourselves where we might find some proof.

The PDA BRAIN
The PDA-brain refers to describing the brain as a Personal Digital Assistant that stores and processes information based on the user’s wish. Therefore, we use to talk about someone’s brain as a specific entity and distinct from his body. It directs us to reductionist or determinist thinking, considering that other psychological attributes of a person are removed and usually incompatible with the biology of the mind. Some theologians even argue for the presence of a soul in the early stages of development whereas new technologies still portray an undefined entity entering the machine.

The Social BRAIN
The social brain deals with the influence of brain networks in executing daily tasks, such as interpreting language, emotions, face processing, or various skills. It speaks more about psychology in terms of temperament and personality, and the individual differences that run from here. In this context, the social environment plays an important role along with genetics, biology, and culture being key elements in shaping behavior. It is suggested that genes and social experience influence brain networks of control and changes in behavior starting with child development.

The Ethical BRAIN
The ethical brain focuses on “ neuroethics ”and “ neurolaw’’. It challenges the traditional ethical beliefs that stand for the presence of a soul that somehow uses the brain but still has the power of moral decisions. This time mental life is grounded in the influences of the genetic structure of the brain. Considering this approach, we can no longer speak about soul or free will, but rather of areas of the brain that can predict the consequences of behavior and inhibit it accordingly.

To develop these ideas, I consulted this book right here:

Hope it made you reflect a bit on your brain. Even if sometimes the neurobiological evidence might seem to speak for itself, I think it is still hard to draw a line.

Have a great week ❣️
