( EN / DE ) A few days ago I described how I heat the house while the family was on a short vacation. A few questions and points have remained open, so here is part 2.
No, @tengolotodo I dont live in a castle! It is a multi-family house, whereby the emphasis is just family. In total I think it is about 200 square meters of living space.
Vor ein paar Tagen hatte ich ja beschrieben, wie ich das Haus heize während die Familie auf Kurzurlaub war. Ein paar Fragen und Punkte sind dabei offen geblieben, hier also Teil 2.
Nein, @tengolotodo ich wohne in keinem Schloß! Es ist ein Mehrfamilien Haus, wobei die Betonung eben auf Familie liegt. Insgesamt denke ich sind es rund 200 Quadratmeter Wohnfläche.
Earlier, the house was even smaller and where you now see the wood stove, there has always been such a solid fuel stove. When I was very small, once a year a truck came with coal, which was shoveled through a basement window (where you now see the piano) into the basement. Because of the dust of the coal there was a wooden partition.
Früher war das Haus noch kleiner und dort wo ihr jetzt den Holzofen seht, stand immer schon ein solcher Festbrennstoff Ofen. Als ich noch ganz klein war kam einmal im Jahr ein Lastwagen mit Kohle, die wurde durch ein Kellerfenster (da wo ihr jetzt das Piano seht) in den Keller geschaufelt. Wegen dem Staub der Kohle war dort eine Holz Trennwand.
There is even a photo where I stand with baby bacon in front of this basement window, over 50 years ago...
Es gibt sogar ein Foto, wo ich mit Babyspeck vor diesem Keller Fenster stehe, vor über 50 Jahren...
Then in the 70s it happened that electricity, especially night electricity, was so cheap that everyone advised to switch to electric heating. This is what my grandfather did at the time, cleverly keeping the fireplace and switching between heating systems was possible.
Dann in den 70er Jahren ergab es sich, dass Strom, vor allem Nachtstrom, so billig war, dass jedermann riet, auf eine Stromheizung umzustellen. Dies tat mein Großvater damals auch, wobei er schlauer weise den Feuerofen behielt und ein Umschalten zwischen den Heizsystemen möglich war.
What already looks very old and dirty here, was then brand new, the latest state of the art and yes, you won't believe it, if nowadays really no one has time to heat with wood, then this little monster is still thrown on. However, with current electricity prices, it should be used with caution. As a short-term transitional solution with not too high heating degrees, is still relatively in the tolerable range.
Was hier schon sehr alt und schmutzig aussieht, war damals funkelnagel neu, der neueste Stand der Technik und ja, ihr werdet es nicht glauben, wenn heutzutage wirklich keiner Zeit hat mit Holz zu heizen, dann wird immer noch dieses kleine Monster angeworfen. Allerdings ist es bei den derzeitigen Strompreisen mit Vorsicht zu genießen. Als kurzfristige Übergangslösung mit nicht zu hoher Heizleistung ist es aber immer noch relativ im verträglichen Rahmen.
So this partition wall for the coal was also dismantled and next to the stove a nice little party room was created, which is used sometimes more and sometimes less depending on the generation.
Also wurde dann auch diese Trennwand zur Kohle abgebaut und neben dem Ofen entstand ein netter kleiner Party Raum, der je nach Generation mal mehr und mal weniger genutzt wird.
Then there was the question of why only part of the house is heated in this way. Well, that's because it was always too cold for my sister and brother-in-law, so about 10 years ago they switched to heat pump heating, which is in another corner of the basement - BECAUSE it's so cheap, oh that little bit of electricity. But now I've heard that they are very shocked at how much their electricity costs have gone up with this heating this year.
Dann war noch die Frage, warum nur ein Teil des Hauses so geheizt wird. Nun, das hat sich so ergeben, weil es meiner Schwester und Schwager immer zu kalt war, daher haben sie vor ungefähr 10 Jahren auf eine Wärmepumpenheizung umgestellt, die in einer anderen Ecke des Kellers steht - WEIL es ja so billig ist, ach das bisschen Strom. Nun habe ich aber schon gehört, dass sie sehr schockiert sind, wie sehr ihre Stromkosten dieses Jahr mit dieser Heizung gestiegen sind.
But they are happy and comfortable with 23 degrees C room temperature, so they should be granted. Aber sie sind glücklich und fühlen sich bei 23 Grad C Raumtemperatur wohl, also soll ihnen das vergönnt sein.
I have to say, I don't need to walk around the apartment in top in the winter and find 21 degrees C warm enough. Besides, I still think wood is a good form of heating and even if all the technology fails due to some malfunction, we can still heat here.
Ich für meinen Teil muss sagen, ich muss im Winter nicht mit Top durch die Wohnung laufen und finde 21 Grad C warm genug. Außerdem halte ich Holz immer noch für eine gute Heizform und selbst bei einem Ausfall all der Technik durch irgendwelche Störungen können wir hier immer noch heizen.
And it's always the same old story, be it my grandfather's electric heating, then later pellet heaters, diesel cars and so many more things... It is advertised as so cheap and super, until most have switched to it and then it becomes expensive again.
Und es ist immer wieder dieselbe alte Geschichte, sei es die Stromheizung meines Großvaters, später dann Pellets Heizungen, Diesel Autos und so manches mehr... Es wird als so preiswert und super angepriesen, bis die meisten darauf umgestiegen sind und dann wird es erst wieder teuer.
So that was my "This is how we heat our house" report. As I write these lines it has -4 degrees Celsius outside and I sit here at a pleasant 20.8 degrees Celsius, grateful for the tree that gives me this warmth.
How do you heat? Modern or old-fashioned or both?
Das war also meine "So heizen wir uns Haus" Bericht. Während ich diese Zeilen schreibe hat es draußen -4 Grad und ich sitze hier bei angenehmen 20,8 Grad Celsius, dankbar für den Baum, der mir diese Wärme spendet.
Wie heizt ihr? Modern oder altmodisch oder beides?
