It's with great delight i am writing this prompt and I commend @nwothini335 for this initiative and i am excited to participate in this #cleanplanet writing prompt where i will be writing on the weather condition in my town of residence, my favorite weather and why.
In Nigeria, there are two major seasons in a year which are the rainy and the harmattan seasons also known as the wet and dry seasons. Each of this seasons has its characteristic features and importance. For example, the wet season is more of planting season where various crops are planted while the harmattan season is known for its characteristic hot weather conditions and dusts been everywhere. In Nigeria, the weather conditions in the southern part is quite different from that of the northern part of the country.
The southern part of the country i.e. the southwest, southeast and the southsouth are known for heavy rainfalls, high humidity, cloudy weather conditions, cool temperature because they are the rainforests where there are notable rivers, thick forests/vegetations and many other features. The northern part of the country i.e. the northeast, northwest and northcentral are known for hazy and dusty weather conditions, low humidity, high temperature, less rainfall, less forests or less thick vegetations except very few states in that region.
In Nigeria now, we are in the raining season as it has been raining in the different parts of the nation. The humidity is high, the weather is cloudy sometimes, the sunshine is not as intense or scorchy and the weather is cold. The temperature is at normal room temperature and cool. For example, based on the nature of my work as a healthcare professional and also based on my place of living in the southwestern part of Nigeria, some disease conditions associated with the current raining season and weather conditions are prominent like cold & flu, malaria uprise, seasonal allergies etc. I observed of recently alot of midnight rainings and very cold weather conditions in my area of abode.
Early this year, Nigeria experienced a heat wave as predicted as a result of global warming and this heat wave was felt across the states of the federation. Reference
This is one of the remarkable change that occured to the weather condition of the nation over the last few years. Aside the global warming, other contributory factors that affect the weather conditions in Nigeria includes deforestation, increase and unregulated mining activities, explorations, urbanisation and so on. Therefore, we as individuals needs to be weather concious in our day-to-day activities and not do things that might be harmful.
The current weather condition in my town is one favourable for a planting season and individuals, farmers are engaged in farming activities both in-house and on the farmland. The Nigeria Metrological Agency (Nimet) has been doing a great job here in Nigeria through their weather forecast hereby preparing the citizens for what might happen in the future as concerning the weather conditions. Also, they work collaboratively with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other agencies as regards disaster management incase of unfavorable weather conditions.
The weather condition here in my state of residence in Nigeria (Osun State) is typical of a raining season and it has been raining in the last 2 months. There is humidity and the temperature is a cool one with the normal room temperature observed using the thermometer. The early morning dew is observed and cloudy atmosphere is observed sometimes indicative of it about to rain. Sometimes, lightening and thunderstorm are also observed. This is the weather condition in Nigeria and in my town of abode and in my country. My favorite weather is the raining season because i love to sleep during raining time as it rejuvenates my body and it makes me to relax well. Also, i love it when the weather is cool and cold rather than been hot as i dislike heat with everything.
