I approached this portrait through #expressive brushwork, strong contrasts, and a dialogue between warm and cool colors. Rather than focusing on precise details, I wanted to capture the character and emotional presence of the #face .
The interplay of deep blacks, vivid reds, and intense blues creates a sense of tension across the figure. Each brushstroke carries its own movement, sometimes defining a facial feature and sometimes breaking away from it. The red tones bring energy and intensity, while the blues introduce a colder, quieter dimension to the portrait.
For me, painting a #portrait is not simply about reproducing someone's appearance. It is an attempt to explore what lies beneath the visible surface. I am interested in the relationship between identity, emotion, and perception how a face can become a space where different feelings and experiences meet.
I allowed the brushstrokes to remain visible and spontaneous, because I believe that sometimes the unfinished and imperfect qualities of a painting reveal more than carefully controlled details.
I believe one of the most important things in the creative process is learning not to be afraid of the outcome. When I begin a #painting , I don't always know exactly where it will lead. Sometimes the first brushstrokes seem wrong, the colors don't work as expected, and the image takes an unexpected direction. But I have learned not to stop because of that
Art requires a certain amount of courage: the courage to take risks, to make mistakes, to cover a part of the painting, to change direction, and sometimes even to destroy something that seemed successful a moment ago. If we are constantly afraid of ruining our work, we may never discover new possibilities.
I prefer to let the painting develop through experimentation and uncertainty. Not every decision has to be perfect, and not every brushstroke needs to be justified. Sometimes the most interesting moments appear precisely when we lose control and allow intuition to take over.
For me, painting is not about protecting an expected result; it is about having the courage to discover something I hadn't imagined before.

Blue is more than just a color to me; it is a kind of experience, a feeling that sometimes cannot be expressed through words. Whenever I look at the sky or the sea, I encounter an endless range of blues that never seem to repeat themselves. Sometimes blue is calm and bright, sometimes deep and heavy, and sometimes it feels so cold and distant that it creates an invisible space between me and the world.
In painting, blue has an extraordinary ability to express contradictory emotions. It can represent peace, freedom, and liberation, yet at the same time, it can convey sadness, loneliness, longing, and silence. Perhaps this is why I have always felt that blue is not so much a color meant to be seen as one meant to be felt.
When I use blue in portraits, I am not necessarily trying to reproduce the actual colors of the human face. What matters more to me is allowing color to reveal something about the inner world of a person; something that may not be visible at first glance. Sometimes a single patch of blue on a face can say more than carefully rendered details. At other times, the contrast between dark and light blues creates a sense of inner conflict that no other element could express in quite the same way.
I see blue as the distance between reality and imagination, a place where memory, emotion, and image blend together. Perhaps every person has their own shade of blue, shaped by their memories, experiences, and personal way of seeing the world.
For me, painting with blue is a quiet conversation with myself; a conversation that does not always lead to a definite answer, but perhaps its unanswered questions are part of its beauty.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who takes the time to look at my work, share their thoughts, and support my artistic journey. Every comment, kind word, and moment of attention means a lot to me. #Art is a personal journey, but the connection it creates with others makes that journey even more meaningful. Thank you for being part of it. Hossein Rishehri
