Happy Thorsday: Bring The Hammer Now

Today is Thursday. In Viking mythology the day is called Thorsday in honor of their powerful god Thor, the son of Odin.

Most of us have seem pictures of Thor with his fierce eyes, red hair and full beard.

In legend, Thor is believed to be the protector of mankind- the hammer wielding Norse god of Thunder, Lightning and Oak Trees.

Thor’s Hammer, in later stories, is believed to travel about 100 miles per hour and can only be lifted by those who are worthy.

In photos he is either seem walking holding the hammer or riding a chariot drawn by goats.

Why goats instead of horses?

Goats are sturdy animals and would provide milk. One possible reason of the goats to haul his chariot is because Thor, being god of the common people, a goat would be the animal a farmers could get along without whereas they would need horses. Goats connect Thor to humanity.

Thor’s father, Odin, is the Norse god of wisdom, death, magic and healing. He is often seen seated on a throne with two ravens named Huggin and Muninn.

Goat Connection With Odin

Odin resides in Asgard in the great hall of Valhalla. From Valhalla he chooses worthy warriors who have died in battle to reside there with him. They drink a mead made from the milk of a goat.

What’s up with Thor and Odin and the goats?”

Is goat’s milk part of the drink of the gods that gives eternal life?

The earth goddess, Frigga, is Odin’s wife. She has been known to shapeshift into a bird.

In mythology the name Frigga and Freya are interchangeable. Frigga being more connected to magic while Freya, often depicted with a cat, is the hunter. It’s really all in what you believe.

I often think of Odin’s ravens when I see these two stop by my backyard. I hope it is a good message from the Norse god. I call the ravens, Hugs and Mugs.

In these perilous times of the virus pandemic we need a divine mystical intervention to stop the spread of COVID-19.

In Viking mythology, Frigga being an earth goddess, would ask the powerful Thor, to help humanity and bring his hammer down to kill the deadly bacteria causing the virus.

Bring the hammer down now Thor!

After all he is suppose to be the protector of mankind.
