Hoy amanecí pensando en la dura crueldad en la que vivimos los Venezolanos. Pensé en las generaciones pasadas, esas que lo tenían todo, esos tiempos fáciles y llenos de bonanza con personas débiles en pensamientos que produjeron directa o indirectamente esta compleja situación que hoy asumimos la "DÉBIL" generación joven Venezolana.

Today I woke up thinking about the harsh cruelty in which we Venezuelans live. I thought about the past generations, those who had everything, those easy times full of goodness with people weak in thought that produced directly or indirectly this complex situation that today we assume the "WEAK" young Venezuelan generation.

Yo tengo 23 años, nací cuando este sueño disfrazado apenas comenzaba, era una bebé cuando la generación de tiempos fáciles tomo la peor de sus decisiones, esos que cuando iban a un restaurante miraban con aires de superioridad a los mesoneros, esos mismos que teniendo dinero se limitaban a dejarle propinas, los mismos que con una mirada mezclada con lastima y desdén le soltaban algunas moneditas a quien les cuidaba el carro en la calle. Esos mismos que cuando iban a un supermercado o a un consultorio médico apenas intercambiaban 4 palabritas con la cajera o recepcionista (si la conversación era corta, mucho mejor).
I'm 23 years old, I was born when this dream in disguise was just beginning, I was a baby when the generation of easy times made the worst of their decisions, those who, when they went to a restaurant, looked at the waiters with airs of superiority, those who, having money, limited themselves to leaving tips, those who, with a look mixed with pity and disdain, dropped some coins to the person who took care of their car on the street. The same ones who, when they went to a supermarket or a doctor's office, barely exchanged four words with the cashier or receptionist (if the conversation was short, so much the better).
En la vida que vivieron antes de toda esta pesadilla, quizás eran estudiantes universitarios de los últimos semestres de sus carreras, tal vez un recién graduado, una joven promesa en su profesión, también pudieron haber sido esos profesionales estrella que escalaban rápidamente los puestos de la empresa.
In the life they lived before all this nightmare, maybe they were college students in the last semesters of their careers, maybe a recent graduate, a young hopeful in their profession, could also have been those star professionals who were rapidly climbing the corporate ladder.
Esos jóvenes de los 90 y más atrás que desde niños se trazaron un camino exitoso (profesionalmente) y que nunca se dedicaron a cultivase personalmente y a pensar en que las cosas cambian en cuestiones de un click, esos que nunca pensaron que hoy... Se dedicarían a otra cosa. Las metas que muchos trazaron eran, estudiar, graduarse, trabajar en una gran empresa, comprar casa y carro, tener familia, repitiendo la fina frase de "Ya tengo la vida resuelta"
Those young people of the 90s and beyond who, since they were children, had set out on a successful path (professionally) and who never dedicated themselves to personally cultivating and thinking that things change in a matter of a click, those who never thought that today... would dedicate themselves to something else. The goals that many set were, study, graduate, work in a big company, buy a house and a car, have a family, repeating the fine phrase "I already have my life figured out"
A estos "jóvenes" y a sus hijos les tocó soltar, desprenderse, correr, huir, MIGRAR,de un país descuartizado, secuestrado, violado.
These "young people" and their children had to be released, detached, run away, MIGRATE, from a country that had been dismembered, kidnapped and raped.
Hablo lo que veo diariamente en las calles de Bogotá, pero también se de muchos lugares en dónde tengo familia y amigos que Lima,Santiago, Miami, Buenos Aires, Punta Cana, Madrid, Valencia (podría pasar el día mencionando ciudades y pueblos al rededor del mundo en dónde se que hay Venezolanos) literalmente estamos en todas partes.
I talk about what I see daily in the streets of Bogotá, but I also know about many places where I have family and friends that Lima, Santiago, Miami, Buenos Aires, Punta Cana, Madrid, Valencia (I could spend the day mentioning cities and towns around the world where I know there are Venezuelans) are literally everywhere.

En Bogotá y como vivencia propia e visto ingenieros, arquitectos, abogados, médicos, enfermeros, psicólogos, periodistas, administradores de empresas y músicos por doquier. Muchos trabajando arduamente, cómo garzones, cocineros, domiciliarios, taxistas, recepcionistas, agentes en Calle Center, cómo vendedores ambulantes de arepas y empanadas Venezolanas, cargando y descargando mercancía para almanecenes.
In Bogota and as my own experience I have seen engineers, architects, lawyers, doctors, nurses, psychologists, journalists, business administrators and musicians everywhere. Many working hard, like garzones, cooks, home workers, taxi drivers, receptionists, agents in Calle Center, like street vendors of arepas and Venezuelan empanadas, loading and unloading merchandise for stores.

A todos alguna vez nos ha tocado fregar platos, limpiar pisos y trabajar desde muy temprano hasta muy tarde en la noche.
We've all had to wash dishes, mop floors and work from early in the morning until late at night.
Eso sí, cuando tenemos un ratico libre compramos unas cervezas y en la sala del apartamento, ponenemos música y compartimos con amigos y familiares que tengamos cerca. ("Sin tanto ruido porque da pena con los vecinos, mañana hay que trabajar temprano")
However, when we have a few free minutes we buy some beers and in the living room of the apartment we play music and share with friends and family that we have nearby ("Without so much noise because it's sad with the neighbors, tomorrow we have to work early")
Aquí en Bogotá he creado lazos familiares con mis vecinos, mis compañeros de trabajo, mis estudiantes. Imagino a mi abuela en otras señoras, conocí aquí a la que llamaría mi abuela Colombiana, desde que llegué ha sido un apoyo incondicional. Y cuando veo Venezolanos en las calles con pocas alternativas les recuerdo que
Los compatriotas somos hermanos. Les brindo mi mano, les doy el sencillo que tenga en el bolsillo y si llevo almuerzo o algo comestible, muchas veces se los doy, porque la mayor parte del tiempo están con niños y su enemigo número 1 es el frío y el hambre.
Here in Bogotá I have created family ties with my neighbors, my co-workers, my students. I imagine my grandmother in other ladies, I met here what I would call my Colombian grandmother, since I arrived she has been an unconditional support. En mi caso, la mesa familiar es un chat de WhatsApp que se llama "La Familia Internacional" ahí compartimos el día a día, las abuelas nos echan la bendición, nos motivan a qué sigamos luchando y con un constante "¿Cuando vienen?" "¿Cuídense mucho hijos míos?" "¡Mire que el que obra bien le va bien!" "¡Pórtese bien y más na'!"
In my case, the family table is a WhatsApp chat room called "The Family International" where we share the day to day, the grandmothers give us their blessing, they motivate us to keep fighting and with a constant "When are you coming?" "Take care of my children" "Look, the one who works well is doing well!" "Be good and more nothing!"
Parecemos alegres, pero también estamos tristes. Tal cual fuéramos los sobrevivientes de un bote salvavidas. Pienso en todos nosotros, somos esa generación de venezolanos profesionales que estamos pasando trabajo, que lloramos a los muertos por teléfono, que cantamos cumpleaños en video chat, que la única ayuda en distancia es el dinero que enviamos, sin abrazo, sin beso y a ciegas. Todos los que estamos “echándole ganas" (por no decir la frase grosera Venezolana) estoy segura de que vamos a ser una gran generación. Porque somos muchachos con formación profesional, pero que ahora aprendimos (por la fuerza) una importante lección de HUMILDAD, de empatía, entendimos el valor de las labores más sencillas.
We look happy, but we're also sad. Just as we were the survivors of a lifeboat. I think about all of us, we are that generation of professional Venezuelans who are spending time, who mourn the dead on the phone, who sing birthdays on video chat, that the only help from afar is the money we send, without a hug, without a kiss and blindly. All of us who are "getting it on" (not to mention the rude Venezuelan phrase) are sure that we are going to be a great generation. Because we are boys with professional training, but who now learned (by force) an important lesson of HUMILITY, of empathy, we understood the value of the simplest tasks.
Detrás de cada trabajo u oficio hay un ser humano en donde nadie es mejor que el otro. Estamos conociendo otra cultura, otras formas y voces.
Behind every job or trade there is a human being where no one is better than the other. We are getting to know another culture, other forms and voices.
Hemos aprendido muchas cosas, pero la más importante es que nos ganamos el pan con el sudor de nuestra frente, de nuestras piernas cansadas, de las manos firmes y de los brazos y hombros ahora fuertes.
We have learned many things, but the most important is that we earn our bread with the sweat of our brow, our tired legs, our steady hands and now strong arms and shoulders.
Quiero creer que esta generación será más resistente y al mismo tiempo más bondadosa.
I want to believe that this generation will be more resilient and at the same time more caring.
Aprendimos tanto a valorar las cosas que he tenido el pensamiento bonito de que cuando aquel ingeniero encuentre empleo en una empresa, ya no mirará por encima del hombro al mesonero, la doctora agradecerá y valorará el trabajo de su recepcionista, otra posibilidad es que el ingeniero se quede trabajando de mesonero y la doctora de recepcionista. Quizás entiendieron que la vida así también es bella.
We learned so much to value things that I had the nice thought that when that engineer finds a job in a company, he will no longer look down on the waiter, the doctor will be grateful and will value the work of his receptionist, another possibility is that the engineer will stay working as a waiter and the doctor as a receptionist. Perhaps they understood that life like that is also beautiful.
Hemos ganado muchísimo (creo que aún nosotros no imaginamos cuánto) como individuos y como colectivo de esta experiencia migrante. nosotros nada más no, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Perú, Buenos Aires (o sencillamente el país que nos reciba) seremos ciudadanos agradecidos con el país que nos abrió sus puertas, el país que nos dio una segunda oportunidad, esa nación que ahora también es nuestra y la defenderemos como tal. El ser migrante es una metamorfosis para el ser humano, significa una transformación que nutre y potencia.
We have gained a lot (I think we still can't imagine how much) as individuals and as a collective from this migrant experience. We, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Buenos Aires (or simply the country that receives us) will be grateful citizens of the country that opened its doors to us, the country that gave us a second chance, that nation that is now also ours and we will defend it as such. Being a migrant is a metamorphosis for the human being, it means a transformation that nourishes and empowers.

Espero que muchos de nosotros podamos volver a una Venezuela mejor que la de nuestros padres y abuelos, repotenciada, bella y llena de oportunidades, se que le daremos el abono nutrido de ánimos de reconstrucción y con todo un ejército de luchadores.
I hope that many of us can return to a Venezuela that is better than that of our parents and grandparents, repowered, beautiful and full of opportunities, I know that we will give it the fertilizer nourished by the spirit of reconstruction and with a whole army of fighters.
Ahora puedo decir que aprendimos a valorar a Venezuela desde la distancia. Otra cosa que también es cierta es que nunca perderemos (o en sentido muy personal, no perderé los vínculos, la gratitud ni el amor por el país que me adoptó y que aún estando lejos de él seguiré amando a la gente que me hizo su familia.
Now I can say that we have learned to value Venezuela from a distance. Another thing that is also true is that we will never lose (or in a very personal sense, I will not lose the ties, gratitude and love for the country that adopted me and that even being far from it I will continue to love the people that made me their family.
Lo mejor de lo peor que pudo pasar en Venezuela, es esta generación de profesionales que aprendieron el valor de cada oficio. Porque sin duda cada JÓVEN MIGRANTE, será mejor personas. Mejor venezolanos y mejor ciudadanos del mundo.
The best of the worst that could happen in Venezuela is this generation of professionals who learned the value of each trade. Because without a doubt each YOUNG MIGRANT will be a better person. Better Venezuelans and better citizens of the world.
