Hello, Hiver friends, today I bring you a mysterious and even disturbing case that happened many years ago. It's the mystery of the Dyatlov Pass, a tragedy that happened in an impressive way and which remains without any explanation today, although many claim to have true hypotheses. El 27 de enero de 1959, diez estudiantes del Instituto Politécnico de los Urales, cuyo líder era Igor Dyatlov, fueron de excursión para tratar de alcanzar la cima de la montaña Gora Otorten. Los estudiantes eran ocho hombres y dos mujeres. Eran muy jóvenes, menores de 25 años, a excepción del guía del grupo, Zolotariov, que tenía 37, pero todos ellos eran expertos esquiadores de fondo y tenían muy bien establecida su ruta.
On January 27, 1959, ten students from the Ural Polytechnic Institute, led by Igor Dyatlov, went on a hike to try to reach the top of the Gora Otorten mountain. The students were eight men and two women. They were very young, under 25, except for the group's guide, Zolotariov, who was 37, but all of them were expert cross-country skiers and had very well established their route.
Debido a las bajas temperaturas en esa época del año (-30° C), la ruta de los excursionista estaba clasificada en un nivel 3 de peligrosidad, es decir, la más riesgosa de su categoría, por lo tanto el grupo estaba alerta y mantenía las medidas de seguridad pertinentes.
Due to the low temperatures at that time of year (-30 ° C), the hiker's route was classified as dangerous level 3, that is, the most risky of its category, therefore the group was alert and maintained the relevant security measures.
Un día después de que el grupo emprendió la marcha desde Vizhai, el único lugar poblado antes de llegar a la montaña, uno de sus miembros, Yuri Yudin, de 21 años, comenzó a sentir mucho dolor en la parte baja de la espalda, así que decidió abandonar la excursión y regresar a casa. En ese momento no lo sabía, pero su enfermedad lo había salvado de un terrible fin.
One day after the group set out from Vizhai, the only inhabited place before reaching the mountain, one of its members, Yuri Yudin, 21, began to feel a lot of pain in his lower back, so he decided to abandon the excursion and return home. He didn't know it at the time, but his illness had saved him from a terrible end.

Ahora con nueve miembros, el grupo continuó la excursión hasta llegar a la cumbre de la montaña Jólat Siajl (montaña de la muerte en el idioma Masai). Al principio tuvieron la intención de escalar, pero el clima frío que empezaba a hacerse más intenso, les impidió el avance, por lo tanto decidieron acampar allí para esperar a que mejorara. De esta manera comenzaron a cortar una pendiente de nieve para instalar su carpa.
Now with nine members, the group continued the excursion until they reached to the summit of the mountain Jólat Siajl (mountain of death in the Masai language) At first, they had the intention of climbing, but the cold weather that was beginning to become more intense, prevented their advance, therefore they decided to camp there to wait for to get better. In this way they began to cut a snow slope to set up their tent.

Dyatlov, el líder del grupo, tenía acordado enviar un telegrama al club deportivo al que pertenecían, una vez que hubiesen regresado a Vizhai, sin embargo el telegrama jamás llegó. Esto no alarmó a nadie al principio porque era común que hubiese retrasos, pero luego de varios días, la familia comenzó a alarmarse, así que pidieron ayuda a las autoridades correspondientes que iniciaron la búsqueda de los jóvenes en compañía de voluntarios.
Diatlov, the leader of the group, had agreed to send a telegram to the sports club they belonged to, once they had returned to Vizhai, however the telegram never arrived. This did not alarm anyone at first because it was common for there to be delays, but after several days the family of the hikers became alarmed, so they requested help from the corresponding authorities, who began the search for they in the company of volunteers.
La búsqueda/The search
El 26 de febrero, la búsqueda dio los primeros resultados pues encontraron la tienda de los excursionistas.
On February 26, the search yielded the first results as they found the hikers' tent.
Pero la carpa estaba rasgada desde adentro, como si algo o alguien hubiese obligado a los excursionistas a escapar súbitamente.
But the tent was ripped from the inside, as if something or someone had forced the hikers to flee suddenly.
Los investigadores, desconcertados ante el hallazgo, continuaron buscando, así que, cerca de la tienda encontraron los restos de una hoguera y ocho pares de huellas que se dirigían hacía un bosque. Siguieron el rastro y allí encontraron algo terrible, los primeros dos cuerpos de los excursionistas.
Researchers, puzzled by the discovery, continued searching, so near the tent they found the remains of a bonfire and eight pairs of footprints heading into a forest. They followed the trail and found something terrible there, the first two bodies of the hikers.

No es del todo extraño haberlos encontrado casi sin ropa ya que, en algunos casos de hipotermia, se produce un fenómeno llamado «Desnudo paradójico» que provoca que las personas tengan la sensación de calor extremo y comiencen a desnudarse.
It's not at all strange to have found them almost without clothes since, in some cases of hypothermia, a phenomenon called "Paradoxical Nude" occurs that causes people to have the sensation of extreme heat and begin to undress.
A 600 metros de ese lugar encontraron otros tres cadáveres, entre ellos, Dyatlov. Él fue encontrado de bruces, con los brazos en el pecho, como si intentara protegerse de algo, otros cuentan que el cuerpo tenía en una de las manos una rama de abedul (quizá para utilizarla como arma)

A 300 metros del lugar donde encontraron los otros cadáveres, hallaron a Zina Kolmogorova, ella también estaba descalza y su cabeza estaba orientada en dirección a la tienda.

A 180 metros de ella, encontraron el cuerpo de Rustem Slobodin con el cráneo fracturado.

Justo a su lado encontraron los cadáveres de Semión Zolotarev (A quien le faltaba un ojo) y Alexander Kolevatov. Ambos estaban abrazados, tal vez para calentarse, o quizá buscando refugio uno en el otro al ver lo que sucedía con sus compañeros.
Right next to him they found the bodies of Semion Zolotarev (who was missing an eye) and Alexander Kolevatov. The two were holding each other, perhaps to warm themselves, or perhaps seeking refuge in each other as they saw what was happening with their companions.
Los cadáveres tenían un extraño color entre rojo y naranja.
The corpses were a strange color between red and orange.
Finalmente, Nicolas Thibeaux-Brignollel fue encontrado dentro del arroyo.
Finally, Nicolas Thibeaux-Brignollel was found inside the stream.
Investigaciones/Investigations
Los médicos forenses, luego de hacer los primeros análisis a los cuerpos, determinaron que los muchachos habían muerto por hipotermia, pero algunos de los cuerpos presentaban heridas muy graves, como fracturas de cráneo, costillas o incluso la ausencia de los ojos y la lengua, y para colmo, todos presentan un elevado índice de radioactividad. Finalmente dedujeron que habían muerto a causa de «Una fuerza superior e inexplicable»
The forensic doctors, after making the first analyzes to the bodies, determined that they had died of hypothermia, but other of the bodies had very serious injuries, such as skull fractures, ribs or even the absence of the eyes and tongue. And to top it all, they all have a high level of radioactivity. They finally deduced that they had died from "A superior and inexplicable force"
El caso se cerró y nunca más se habló de él, todo permaneció en un misterio absoluto hasta la década de los 90, pero los nuevos investigadores notaron que a los archivos les faltaban algunas páginas.
The case was closed and it was never discussed again, everything remained an absolute mystery until the 1990s, but new investigators noted that the files were missing a few pages.
Hipótesis/Hypothesis
Debido al misterio, a las pistas encontradas, al estado de los cadáveres y a las pocas respuestas que encontraron luego de las investigaciones, las personas comenzaron a fraguar una serie de hipótesis que resultan aterradoras.

Al principio, los investigadores dijeron que las muertes fueron causadas por una avalancha, sin embargo, las heridas de los cuerpos no corresponden a ese suceso.
At first, the investigators said that the deaths were caused by an avalanche, however, the injuries to the bodies did not correspond to that event.
Cuando le pidieron al único sobreviviente, Yuri Yudin, que reconociera las pertenencias de sus compañeros, él afirmó que allí había uniformes militares que no les pertenecían a sus amigos y también dijo que todo pudo haber sido provocado por el ejército soviético, ya que toda la zona estaba dentro de los límites de un campo de pruebas militares donde se probaban inventos durante la Guerra Fría. Esto pudiera explicar la presencia de radiación en los cadáveres.
When the only survivor, Yuri Yudin, was asked to recognize the belongings of his companions, he claimed that there were military uniforms there that didn't belong to his friends and claimed that everything could have been caused by the Soviet army, since the entire area it was within the confines of a military proving ground where inventions were tested during the Cold War. This could explain the presence of radiation in the corpses.

And finally, there is a group of people who are of the opinion that the fearsome Siberian Yeti was the one who attacked them.
Al lugar donde encontraron los cuerpos, decidieron llamarlo posteriormente «Paso Dyatlov» en honor al líder de los excursionistas.
The place where the bodies were found was later named "Dyatlov Pass" in honor of the leader of the hikers.
