You understand that there are different styles of writing, right?

Each writer has a writing style that is unique to him or her. Some also have a niche they specialize in. There is a general notion that every writer knows what works for them and they always want to hit the spot with their content.

From time to time, we also hear many writers complaining of things like writer's block or loss of confidence in their ability to do well as writers.

These things happen and a whole lot of people in this space pass through that stage. Not once and surely not twice. It comes and goes. Some bounce back after the experience. Others never really found their feet again and subsequently quits writing.

In this post, we will highlight a factor that leads to a loss of confidence for writers. We will also look at what can be done to revive your confidence whenever you are facing this challenge.

Let's start with a factor that can lead to loss of confidence in your writing ability.

Generally, we all write because we enjoy it and we want to feel good about our work. At the same time, we want to captivate our audience with whatever we are writing. We want them to give some sort of assessment (perhaps feedback) about what we wrote.

The long-awaited feedback can come in the form that the audience will express their satisfaction with the content. When the feedbacks are positive, it boosts the confidence of the writer.

On the other hand, if the publications did not get any feedback or, in worst cases, get negative feedback or disapproval from the target audience, it makes a lot of writers question their writing ability.

Can you see where I'm going with this?

The creative industry and appraisals go hand in hand. Artists, writers and others in the industry always like to get feedback because it makes us feel good about our work. In the same manner, it can also result in a loss of confidence in our writing.

Some people measure the quality of their writing based on the type of traffic they get or number of sales they make (for book publishers). Truly, those numbers do not lie, but it would be a mistake to think that all the traffic is coming just because of the writing ability of the author.

Here is what you can do to maintain your confidence in such situations.

Genuinely write what you love and be the ultimate reviewer of your work. That is the way to go. No two ways about it.

If you've not noticed, whenever you are waiting for someone to tell you how good you are as a writer, you always forget that there are sentiments attached to these. Some will like it. Some will hate it. Others will overlook your writing in its entirety and focus on whether they like you as a person or not.

Besides, when everyone says they love your work, does it make you perfect as a writer? 'NO' is the answer.

There is always room for improvement and, yes, we will always look forward to writing a best-selling masterpiece. But even if you don't ever get to achieve that, as far as you enjoy your writing, never make the mistake of downplaying your ability as a writer.

In a nutshell, don't allow people's assessment of your writing ability or the number of views you get on each publication or the amount of $$$ you earn to affect your confidence as a writer.
