The extent to which remorse can change our world

Throughout our earthly experiences, we have done things of which we are not proud and for which we feel remorse, for example; we have spent the money of the household food to go out partying, out of anger we killed some defenseless animal, we did not go to our best friend's birthday, we have left our parents in the old people's home.

These regrets can accompany us for years, even for the rest of our lives if we do not face the fact that provoked them and forgive ourselves for it. It seems something simple and logical at first sight, but evidently, for the person who experiences this guilt, it is not so easy to get rid of it.

From psychology, feeling remorse is a kind of guilt and is defined as the painful affective state that arises from the belief or feeling of having done something wrong or transgressed ethical, personal or social norms.

Guilt has two sides, one positive and one negative, its brighter side is strongly associated with the feeling of empathy, since people who feel guilty are usually also more empathetic.

However, when guilt is exaggerated, it becomes a problem, negative feelings and thoughts appear that generate a great discomfort in the face of the responsibility for mistakes. When these symptoms appear, it is urgent to see a specialist to try to make amends and to be able to continue our lives in the best way possible.
