Holi and Holi Dhuleti is a two day festival celebrated in various parts of India . This time 8th march is the day of dhuleti and 6th march is the day of Holi or also known as Holika Dahen.

India is a country of festivals , rich in culture and traditions.
There a lot of traditions attached to every festival.
I think it will be a nice opportunity for me to express the rich culture of India.

What is Holi?

A festival of colors enjoyed by all generations . A festival of joy and colour for enjoying the victory of goodness over evil .
It remarks of removing of one’s evil thoughts , intentions and bad habbits .

Holi Bonfire(Dahen)
It is celebrated prior to Holi Dhuleti (actual day of playing with colors)
Today was the bonfire lit where it is believed that we are dumping evilness inside us and evolving with positivity.
To change for good is always beneficial.

Traditions attached to it!
The traditions to it is based on a mythological story .
In short , the story revolves around winning of goodness over evil .
It is believed when the bonfire known as Holika dahenis lit , the evilness inside a person is to be burned with the burning of Holika dahen . Significance of the event is remarked by roaming around the fire for 5 times as a culture of beliefs .
The women’s of the society do the worship of the bonfire , before it is lit ! They offer garlands , sweets and other ritual offerings to the bonfire !
The fire when lit , is believed to shower blessings on people through deities power (ritual beliefs)

There a lot of gifts exchange from families and friends, people gift rose syrups and other flavoured syrups , sweets and namkeens . Also , people gift organic colours these day !

THE JOY OF KIDS
Kids are one of the most excited ones on this festival as they get to play with others without limitations.
The famous saying Bura Na Mano Holi Hai (Don’t get offended after all it’s holi)
So children’s throw water , Colours , even water balloons .

My childhood
Going back to my childhood days , I remember the fun I use to have . I believe when we were kids , all festivals seemed more joyful to us .
I remember waking up early in morning , filling balloons with color water and keeping tons of bucket ready for colouring anyone whom i saw on that day . Doing so and hiding as we used to throw from our home windows or terrace was some real fun . Back then , I remember the joy i had playing with pichkaris (long tool for throwing water on someone ) .
If you have ever played holi , tell me about your experience and your childhood memories attached to it!
