Estás clases de abejas se caracterizan por tener un solo portero en su colmena donde tiene que abrirle paso a las abejas que salen y entran sin dejar la entrada sola para que no entre algún intruso de otra colmena o otro animal, si intenta entrar alguno de ellos el portero tiene que pelear para que no logren entrar y muchas veces pierden la vida por defender su colmena. Si el portero muere la colmena lo sustituye por otra abeja que va a ser su nuevo portero. su miel es muy diferente a la miel de las abejas con aguijón .
