MONOMAD - A land of exstremes

DSC_105.jpg

This photo was taken at sunrise in the Atacama desert, Chile. The Atacama desert is hot and dry, with weird rockformations, snowcapped volcanoes, high altitude lakes, salt flats, geysiers and extreme temperatures. It is said to be the driest place on earth. The temperatures are extreme. During the day it can reach 40 degrees C, but during the night it can fall allmost to 0. This is a place where you have to come prepared for both the cold and the very hot temperature at mid day. The photo was taken at sunrise at the El Tatio geyser field, situated 4.300 m. above sea level, which makes it the highest geyser field in the world and with more than 80 active geysers! A spectacular sight at dawn. Atacama has some of the most surreal, otherworldly landscape I have ever seen.
