𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬ed 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞,𝐧𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬,𝐢 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠!😁
NEMESIS (PART TWO)
"Where is the money?" She asked in such a voice that suggested danger.
"I am sorry ma. I was nearly raped by a group of boys yesterday so I had to leave everything and run." Ada answered in a trembling voice.
"Hey! Wonders shall never cease," madam Gold exclaimed, throwing her two hands up in the air. "So you left my goods and my money to protect what? The thing you were doing with those your dirty village boys and they one they wanted to do what's the difference? Them for rape you well well! I send you go sell you come dey follow boys up and down. Wait I dey come."
Madam Gold went into the house and resurfaced with grounded pepper and her belt. She got hold of Ada, applied the pepper on her eyes thoroughly and descended on her with the belt. The strokes kept landing unrelentingly making Ada wail and plead for mercy.
Madam Gold's heart of stone was at its extreme as she ignored the girl and increased the intensity with every stroke. She kept hammering her till her first son who was coming in from the University that morning came to stop her. Ada was in a sorry state with tears and saliva covering her face.
After madam Gold had left for work, Junior, her son had taken Ada in, helped her wash her face and boiled water for her to massage her body. He had promised to make his mother to stop maltreating her.
Ada was happy that at least someone cared about her. But Junior has had his eyes on her because of her beauty and innocence. Ada fell into his arms to find the peace that had eluded her for long.
Junior seized the opportunity and struck!
He ran his hands tenderly over her body down to her forbidden places. Before she knew it, it was already too late. Junior took advantage of her vulnerability and deflowered her.
How she cried! Why is life so cruel? Why did life bring her into madam Gold's family for everybody to devour her?
Junior didn't stop there. He convinced her that he loved her and would marry her. Before long, sex between the two became more regular. Junior now came home more often to continue his secret affair with Ada.
Many months into their relationship, Ada felt changes in her body. She got weak often, felt feverish and her breasts were heavier now. Soon she was throwing up and it didn't take long for madam Gold to notice. She was pregnant!.
Madam Gold had called her into her room. There, two sharp cutlasses were in sight and she threatened to slice her into two if she doesn't give her the name of whoever was responsible for her pregnancy. In a trembling voice, Ada had told her that it was Junior. Madam Gold couldn't believe it. She sent for Junior to return from school immediately.
On his return, she took him to her room for a chat. He had admitted to be responsible, stating that he loved the girl and would want to marry her.
Madam Gold got upset and warmed him that any day he publicly accepts responsibility for that pregnancy that she would cease to be his mother. She warned that he must denounce her, stressing that she came from a cursed home and wouldn't make an ideal wife for him. She had given him money to return to school and stay there till she clears up the mess. Junior took his mother's advice and returned to school.
Madam Gold told Ada that she was taking her to her place. After that, she and her son would come to pay her bride price. Oh! How happy she was! It's wasn't really about the proposed marriage, but at least, she would reunite with her family again.
On the day of the proposed visit, she had put her things together and madam Gold drove her. They drove for more than two hours before she stopped and told her to come down. She came down, though confused. Madam Gold handed an envelope over to her and addressed her thus:
"I won't allow you to hook yourself and your bastard child on my son. I would have killed you but the last girl that stayed with me died in my hands so I don't want to shed another blood. Inside that envelope is ten thousand Naira. Use it and help yourself. You are used to living on the streets. So you will surely survive anyhow. This is the best I can do for you."
She had driven off. Ada just realised that she was leaving her in a no man's land. She had left her bag and the envelope and ran after madam Gold, shouting that she should forget about her son marrying her but she should just take her home. She ran until her car was out of sight.
She started gazing around the unfamiliar territory with hot tears streaming down her face. That day, she realised that the devil is not actually in hell waiting, but he is walking round the earth in human form. Where would she go from here?
Not knowing exactly what to do next, she dejectedly returned to the point where Madam Gold dropped her off. She couldn't believe her eyes as she looked around in utter helplessness. Her envelope was gone!
