"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
We often come across this expression whenever we start discussing about 'beauty' as a concept. And the world around us provides us with enough examples that substantiate this popular expression. For exp., a very good looking rich girl falls in love with a very ugly looking poor man, and even marries him! This makes me wonder if there is something that is truly, objectively beautiful; something that everyone agrees to being 'beautiful'. Here is an example:
The pink rose in the above pic is definitely perceived by everyone as very beautiful, okay? But what if even a very small percentage of viewers of this pic find this pink rose quite repulsive or disgusting for whatever reason? It could be that these people associated the pink color of this rose with something disgusting based on their previous life experiences?
So, there is more to beauty than just what the eye of the beholder grasps? Perhaps some much deeper neurological/psychological/emotive processes are at work? This could be the reason why someone who is judged by the majority as 'ugly' is 'beautiful' to some people?
Whatever may be the intricacies involved in the perception of beauty, what I appreciate is the fact that all living beings are gifted with one of the most precious mental faculties, that is, sensing and enjoying beauty!
