Women must learn to play the game as men do.
-- Eleanor Roosevelt
About the Quote
As women enter fields dominated by men, they need to treat those fields as if they are playing a game. They need to know what's allowed and what's not acceptable. They need to know rewards and penalties for every action. They need to realize that while some men will be better in their chosen field than they are, some men will be better than other men as well. After making a reconnaissance of the environment, they can formulate strategies for not only doing well to also for excelling in their chosen field. In that way, the women can beat the men at their own game, and that's how they can take charge over time.
Some Information about Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt was daughter to Elliott Roosevelt and Anna Hall Roosevelt. The Roosevelt family was wealthy, and it placed great value on community service.
She had two brothers, although one died when she was 9 years old. Before she turned 10, she lost both parents, so relatives raised her and her surviving brother.
When she was 15, she enrolled at a girl's boarding school outside London named Allenswood. It was there where she developed an both intellectual curiosity and interest in travel. She wanted to excel in all things except sports, and that was because she had no interest in them.
