It's monarch butterfly season in Southern California, as the migration moves northward. Thanks to generous rain and some groundclearing at home, there's pleanty of California native narowleaf milkweed for them to feast on. (Note: The ornamental milkweek sold locally is NOT very good for them at all. You can recognize ornamental by its colorful flowers vs. plain white.)
Here are two pictures of them. One is a caterpillar getting plump off of milkweed. The other is one beginning to create its chrysalis on a rock. Such fun to watch.
