Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

Oggi mentre il mese di Luglio ci saluta e quello di Agosto si affaccia portandoci via la migliore serie tv di tutti i tempi, qualcuno si sentirebbe di dire che Better Call Saul potrebbe esistere senza Kim Wexler?
Alzi la mano chiunque sia cosi coraggioso da affermare ciò, dopo di che si alzi e lasci la stanza in preda alla vergogna ed al rimorso.

Mentre scrivo questo post il calendario in basso a destra sullo schermo del mio PC recita "25/07/2022".
Sono trascorsi 6 giorni dall'episodio più bello dell'anno e di tutta Better Call Saul.
Fun And Games, oltre a regalarci una impeccabile ora di televisione, ci ha restituito il commiato definitivo del personaggio interpretato da Rhea Seehorn.
Dell'episodio ho abbondantemente parlato in quello che reputo uno dei post a cui sono e sarò sempre più affezionato. Lo trovate qui.
Preludio a questo post ed a Fun And Games, trovate l'articolo legato alla mid season premierè, quel Point and Shoot altrettanto indimenticabile.
Per chi, invece, volesse fare un passo indietro ulteriore, qui c'è il recap di tutti gli episodi della stagione 6, o almeno della prima parte.
Appena terminata la visione del nono deflagrante episodio, sono corso al PC per scrivere la recensione di cui sopra. Mentre scrivevo, però, ho sentito il bisogno di salvare in bozza qualche riga per un post che avrei voluto dedicare a Kim, ed in particolare a quella che definirei "La Scelta di Kim", quella con cui il suo personaggio ci saluta ed un universo nuovo si apre, grazie o a causa di quella scelta.
Il come, il quando ed il perchè Kim abbia preso quella decisione è stato costruito nel tempo dagli autori ed ha visto l'epilogo perfetto nei minuti finali di Fun And Games.
La morte di Howard Hamlin è stata la miccia che, per i 2 episodi successivi, ha continuato a bruciarsi per poi generare un'esplosione deflagrante proprio quando qualcuno di noi stava scorgendo un barlume di speranza, immaginando che un secchio d'acqua fosse stato lanciato lungo la miccia, proprio in corrispondenza della scintilla.

La morte di Howard, dicevamo, ha innescato un processo drammatico per Kim e Jimmy.
I 2 hanno dovuto fare i conti con una morte generata dal loro impetuoso modo di rapportarsi al mondo, al tempo stesso spensierato e cinico, alla ricerca di una giustizia vera ma spesso simile alla vendetta. 2 avvocati diametralmente opposti fra loro, uno ligio alle regole ed alla buona condotta, l'altro votato alla truffa e l'escamotage. Insieme i 2 poli si sono attratti inesorabilmente, migliorandosi e peggiorandosi l'un l'altro, creando quella combo che ha portato alla vendetta goliardica (ed in un certo senso poetica) su Howard ma anche alla di lui morte.
Se è vero che, a causa del rapporto con Jimmy, Kim ha sfoderato un lato pericoloso, buio, macchiavellico che dentro di lei covava sin da piccola (come ci mostrano i pochi ma efficaci flashback), è altrettanto vero che più volte Jimmy ha accantonato il suo lato fuorilegge per mettere al primo posto Kim, la coppia e la solidità dei loro intenti. Insieme, però, hanno finito per nuocere, divertendosi e amandosi, a chi stava loro accanto.
E' una presa di coscienza fortissima quella di cui Kim si fa carico ma è il come questa scelta maturi che trasuda perfezione da ogni poro.

Come fare? Come risolvere questo dilemma etico irrisolvibile? Restare insieme sapendo di essere una bomba atomica vagante o rompere nettamente e vivere ognuno la propria vita, compiendo il proprio destino da individui e non più da coppia?
Se Jimmy questo interrogativo pare non porsele, convinto come è sempre stato che, a prescindere da quanti Tsunami li travolgeranno (e da quanti Tsunami i 2 provocheranno), insieme riusciranno sempre ad uscirne indenni e più forti, per Kim il discorso, con la morte di Howard, subisce un cambiamento deciso.
Come può, daltronde, fare finta di nulla?

Come continuare ad esercitare la professione di avvocato?
Come conciliare la vocazione per la giustizia e l'essere parte attiva di un circolo criminale oramai innestato nella propria vita?
Come amare Jimmy senza scivolare nuovamente in quei pericolosi giochetti?
Kim si interroga. Metabolizza. E alla fine agisce.

As usual, today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to constantly give you, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see on www.serialfiller.org.

That Better Call Saul is a masterpiece, a work of art, a miracle birthed by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, to this day also seems to me superfluous to mention.
That this magnificent work is such thanks also, if not especially, to a character who never appeared in Breaking Bad (the parent series from which Better Call Saul branches off by becoming a prequel spinoff) makes it all the more mystical, divine, sublime.
Better Call Saul without Saul Goodman and the backward evolution of the lawyer who appeared in Breaking Bad, would not exist, could not exist, in any universe, in either the foundation or the premise.
Today as the month of July bids us farewell and the month of August appears taking away the best TV series of all time, would anyone feel like saying that Better Call Saul could exist without Kim Wexler?
Raise your hand if anyone is brave enough to say that, after which they get up and leave the room in shame and remorse.

As I write this post the calendar in the lower right-hand corner of my PC screen reads "25/07/2022."
Six days have passed since the best episode of the year and of all Better Call Saul.
Fun And Games, besides giving us an impeccable hour of television, gave us the final farewell of the character played by Rhea Seehorn.
I have spoken about the episode at length in what I consider to be one of the posts I am and always will be fondest of. You can find it here.
Prelude to this post and to Fun And Games, find the article related to the mid season premierè, that equally unforgettable Point and Shoot.
For those, however, who want to backtrack further, here is the recap of all the episodes of season 6, or at least the first part.
As soon as I finished watching the deflagrating ninth episode, I ran to the PC to write the above review. As I was writing, however, I felt the need to save in draft a few lines for a post I wanted to devote to Kim, and in particular to what I would call "Kim's Choice," the one with which her character bids us farewell and a new universe opens up, thanks to or because of that choice.
The how, when and why Kim made that decision was built over time by the authors and saw the perfect epilogue in the final minutes of Fun And Games.
Howard Hamlin's death was the fuse that, for the next 2 episodes, kept burning and then generated a deflagrating explosion just when some of us were catching a glimmer of hope, imagining that a bucket of water had been thrown along the fuse, right at the spark.
The spark illuminated the authors and Kim's consciousness, closing a perfect circle that started in an Albuquerque far away and landed in an Albuquerque close to us and inescapably even more tragic.

Howard's death, we said, triggered a dramatic process for Kim and Jimmy.
The 2 had to come to terms with a death generated by their impetuous way of relating to the world, at once carefree and cynical, seeking true but often revenge-like justice. 2 lawyers diametrically opposed to each other, one obedient to rules and good behavior, the other devoted to fraud and contrivance. Together the 2 poles attracted inexorably, improving and worsening each other, creating the combo that led to the goliardic (and in a sense poetic) revenge on Howard but also to his death.
While it is true that, because of her relationship with Jimmy, Kim unleashed a dangerous, dark, Machiavellian side that had been brooding inside her since childhood (as the few but effective flashbacks show us), it is equally true that several times Jimmy set aside his outlaw side to put Kim, the couple, and the solidity of their intentions first. Together, however, they ended up harming, enjoying and loving each other, those around them.
It is a powerful realization that Kim takes on but it is how this choice matures that oozes perfection from every pore.
Kim and Jimmy survive Lalo but they do not survive the realization that together they are extraordinary but toxic.
How to do it? How to solve this unsolvable ethical dilemma? Stay together knowing they are a stray atom bomb or break cleanly and each live their own lives, fulfilling their destiny as individuals and no longer as a couple?

If Jimmy does not seem to ask this question, convinced as he has always been that no matter how many Tsunamis sweep over them (and no matter how many Tsunamis the 2 cause), together they will always manage to emerge unscathed and stronger, for Kim the discourse, with Howard's death, undergoes a definite change.
How, after all, can she pretend that nothing happened?
An innocent man dies murdered before her own eyes. She is elected as Gustavo Fring's hitman. Lalo is also killed because of her courage. Howard is painted, mostly because of Kim, as a depressed and suicidal drug addict. How to live with all this?
How to look in the mirror imagining that he is still a person on the right side of the fence?
How to continue practicing law?
How to reconcile the vocation for justice and being an active part of a criminal circle now grafted into one's life?
How to love Jimmy without slipping back into those dangerous games?
Kim questions herself. She metabolizes. And ultimately acts.
