Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

Prodotto da Rebecca Ferguson e lanciato da BBC One, The Responder è un poliziesco in 6 episodi, scritti da Tony Schumacher.
Oggi vi parlo del pilot, e non di tutta la serie.
Diciamo che ho apprezzato l'episodio numero uno ma ho messo in pausa la visione per dedicarmi ad altre serie e recuperoni che proprio non voglio trascurare (vero Better Call Saul? vero Black Bird? vero Westworld?).

E' probabile, dunque, che prima o poi ne riparleremo.
Martin Freeman è un poliziotto che non so se definire corrotto.
Non è uno stinco di santo ed ha rapporti molto stretti con un piccolo principe della droga, Carl. Non è, però, uno di quei poliziotti corrotti, aggressivi ed invischiatissimi col crimine che avete visto in altri titoli come Mayor of Kingstown, City on a Hill o il leggendario The Shield.
Arrotonda il misero stipendio con qualche imbeccata, favore o lavoretto extra, non proprio lecito ma non lo vedrete nascondere un cadavere o sparare in testa ad un traditore del cartello di Liverpool per conto di Carl o qualcun altro.
Nel pilot, anzi, emerge che Chris (Martin Freeman) è forse un po' stronzo, forse un po' corrotto ma è anche dannatamente generoso e attento ai più deboli.

In Chris, sembra emergere un lato buono. Un lato che cogliamo nelle interazioni con la sua famiglia e nelle visite all'ospizio della mamma ma soprattutto nella fuga repentinea orchestrata di tutto istinto quando capirà che Casey morirà per mano di Carl in un gioco al massacro in cui una grossa partita di droga è sparita dalle mani di Carl e per colpa di Casey.
Possiamo considerare corrotto un poliziotto che decide di evitare il peggio ad una ragazza tossica, colpevole e truffaldina? Possiamo indulgere? Possiamo voltarci dall'altra parte e ringraziare Chris del servizio reso alla comunità?

Today I bring to your attention The Responder, a TV series set in Liverpool and broadcast on Disney Plus.
The male lead, and lynchpin of the whole show is Martin Freeman who, besides reminding us that a series on The Lord of the Rings is coming, always reminds us of that beautiful and moffattian idea that was the basis of Sherlock with him and Benedict Cumberbatch playing Watson and Holmes in one of the most celebrated series of the decade.
Alongside him a decent cast who, I hope, will forgive me if I omit to mention it man by man, woman by woman.
Produced by Rebecca Ferguson and launched by BBC One, The Responder is a 6-episode crime drama, written by Tony Schumacher.
Today I am telling you about the pilot, not the whole series.
Let's just say that I enjoyed episode number one but have put viewing on hold to devote myself to other series and catch-ups that I just don't want to neglect (right Better Call Saul? right Black Bird? right Westworld?).

It is likely, then, that we will talk about it again at some point.
Martin Freeman is a cop I don't know whether to call corrupt.
He is no slouch and has very close relations with a little drug prince, Carl. He is not, however, one of those corrupt, aggressive, crime-involved cops you have seen in other titles such as Mayor of Kingstown, City on a Hill or the legendary The Shield.
He rounds out his meager salary with a few bribes, favors or extra, not-so-legal jobs, but you won't see him hiding a dead body or shooting a Liverpool cartel traitor in the head on behalf of Carl or anyone else.
In the pilot, rather, it emerges that Chris (Martin Freeman) is perhaps a bit of an asshole, perhaps a bit corrupt, but he is also damned generous and caring for the weakest.
We "catch" him, in fact, lending money to a drug addict (Casey) who got into big trouble or giving a ride to a dumbass, just caught in the act, who other cops or citizens would have let rot in jail or slaughtered with insults and disparaging slurs.
In Chris, a good side seems to emerge. A side we catch in his interactions with his family and in his visits to his mother's hospice but especially in the sudden escape orchestrated on all instincts when he realizes that Casey will die at Carl's hands in a game of massacre in which a large batch of drugs disappeared from Carl's hands and because of Casey.
Can we consider a cop who decides to prevent the worst from happening to a toxic, guilty, con-artist girl to be corrupt? Can we indulge? Can we turn away and thank Chris for his service to the community?
Is the protagonist a good guy doing uncommendable things or a bad guy in uniform?
Questions perhaps not highly original but which the pilot raises by arousing in us a fairly keen interest. Not every series succeeds in doing that.
