Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

Che This is Us sia sempre stata LA serie emozionante per definizione credo ci siano pochi dubbi. Che potesse culminare il suo viaggio con una perfezione e semplicità cosi sbalorditiva, lo credevamo in pochi.

This is Us è riuscita ad andare, in questi 6 anni, oltre la dicotomia fra pubblico e critica. Poche serie, come questa, hanno saputo mettere daccordo lo spettatore "medio" ed il più sofisticato dei critici televisivi. Nel cerchio ristretto delle persone che frequento e che This Is Us la guardano, trovo sia persone avvezze al mondo delle serie tv, sia quelle più occasionali, sia quelle che guardano letteralmente 2 serie all'anno. Palati fini e meno fini, abitudinari o meno, tutti hanno in comune la passione per questa vibrante serie tv. In alcuni casi, un appiattimento simile, potrebbe significare un "minus". Non in questo caso. This Is Us ha saputo parlare a tutti ed ha saputo parlare essenzialmente di tutto ciò che è comune ad ogni essere umano. Lo ha fatto con grazia e disinvoltura, ponendo moltissima attenzione ai dettagli e provando da sempre a creare delle connessioni che dall'interno della serie sfociassero oltre la quarta parete.

Ed ora, però, mi tocca parlare di questo "US", finale di serie che non poteva che generare un magone mastodontico. Dire Addio a This Is Us è sembrato quasi come dire addio ad una persona cara, carissima, come lasciare per sempre una casa nella quale hai abitato per anni e della quale conserverai sempre tantissimi ricordi. Ed i ricordi, ed in generale il concetto di "memoria", sono uno dei cardini della serie sui quali Dan Fogelman ha voluto poggiare questo finale splendido, carico di dolcezza e tenerezza ma privo di quelle melense sceneggiate fini a se stesse che mai in This Is Us abbiamo trovato.

La metafora dell'ultimo viaggio è stata espletata attraverso dei vagoni di un treno tanto familiare a Rebecca (quello in cui viaggiava spesso da piccola con suo padre) ed all'interno del quale mamma Pearson ha potuto salutare per l'ultima volta tutti i suoi cari, riunitisi per l'ultima volta al suo capezzale per l'estremo saluto. La delicatezza dei toni con cui tutti hanno reso omaggio a Rebecca, la straniante bellezza con cui la stessa Rebecca provava a rendersi conto di quanto quella passerella fosse l'ultima della sua vita, ha veramente straziato l'anima. Abbiamo ripensato a tutto il percorso fatto dai Pearson in questi anni, aiutati da autori in stato di grazia che hanno saputo guidarci avanti ed indietro nel tempo continuamente. Rebecca è stata la persona che ha reso tutto questo possibile.

As usual, today I bring you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to constantly give you, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see at www.serialfiller.org.

It's been tough.
It was really hard to tune in to the latest episodes of This Is Us, with the knowledge, or rather the certainty, that you're in for a truckload of excitement.
If you are still a few episodes behind, but ready for the grand finale, and in general the last 4 episodes of This is Us, be forewarned: prepare tissues, towels, buckets, and carboys because the commotion and hiccups may assault you.
That This is Us has always been THE emotional series by definition I think there is little doubt. That it could culminate its journey with such stunning perfection and simplicity, few believed.
The tiny narrative swerves we had witnessed in recent times, and the magnification of the realities related to the Big Three, are but a vague memory.
Beginning with the episode dedicated to Miguel, whose title is indeed "Miguel," the series has not missed a beat, giving us four concluding episodes that have truly left an unimaginable void, generating a heartbreak of enormous proportions.
This is Us has managed to go, in these 6 years, beyond the dichotomy between audiences and critics. Few series, like this one, have been able to bring together the "average" viewer and the most sophisticated of TV critics. In the small circle of people I hang out with who watch This Is Us, I find both people who are accustomed to the world of TV series, as well as the more casual ones, and those who literally watch 2 series a year. Fine and not-so-fine palates, habitual or not, all share a common passion for this vibrant TV series. In some cases, such a flattening could mean a "minus." Not in this case. This Is Us has been able to speak to everyone and has been able to speak to essentially everything that is common to every human being. It has done so with grace and ease, paying a great deal of attention to detail and always trying to make connections from within the series that flow beyond the fourth wall.
This is Us "broke" that wall, that screen separating characters from viewers. The immersion was total. Absolute involvement.

And now, however, it's my turn to talk about This Is Us, a series finale that could not help but generate a mammoth magon. Saying Goodbye to This Is Us seemed almost like saying goodbye to a loved one, very dear, like leaving forever a house in which you have lived for years and of which you will always retain so many memories. And memories, and in general the concept of "memory," are one of the cornerstones of the series on which Dan Fogelman wanted to rest this splendid finale, full of sweetness and tenderness but devoid of those melancholy scripts for their own sake that we never found in This Is Us.
Forgive me if in this post about the finale I will also digress about the whole show and especially about the last 4 episodes of the show but I believe that the writers have consciously chosen to create a very long finale that would start right from the episode dedicated to Miguel, passing through Family Meeting and grabbing Rebecca's train to take us towards the finish line.
In the penultimate episode (perhaps one of the best in the entire series), we said goodbye to Rebecca, and we did so through her 3 children and the whole family that has gathered around her.
The metaphor of the last journey was carried out through carriages of a train so familiar to Rebecca (the one in which she often traveled as a child with her father) and inside which Mother Pearson was able to say goodbye for the last time to all her loved ones, who gathered for the last time at her bedside for the final farewell. The gentleness of the tones with which everyone paid their respects to Rebecca, the estranging beauty with which Rebecca herself tried to realize how that walkway was the last of her life, truly wrenched the soul. We thought back on the whole journey the Pearsons have made over the years, aided by authors in a state of grace who have been able to guide us back and forth in time again and again. Rebecca was the person who made it all possible.
