Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

Il vento degli spinoff/reboot non smette mai di soffiare e, anzi, in questo 2022 il fuoco delle rielaborazioni seriali sembra sempre più vivo.
Peacock TV ha contribuito ad alimentarlo con un'operazione furbetta ma molto intrigante.
Quale?
Quella di riesumare il leggendario Willy, il principe di Bel Air, impersonato da Will Smith (recente premio Oscar ed epurato dall'Academy in un sol colpo), e di rebootarlo in un genere tutto nuovo rispetto alla vecchia e iconica serie, ovvero quello del drama.
E cosi nasce Bel Air, reboot della serie sopra citata che in questo 2022 aveva il compito di giustificare la sua esistenza.
Ci sarà riuscita?

C'è un antefatto curioso che riguarda lo show di Peacock TV.
Al contrario di quanto sarebbe lecito immaginare, la serie non nasce con la precisa volontà di riesumare qualcosa di arcinoto e prendere quel pacchetto di spettatori sicuri e appioppargli in un indefinito reboot.
Il progetto ha delle radici molto più inattese che traggono linfa da un video youtube del suo creatore Morgan Cooper, il quale 3 anni fa aveva lanciato un video parodia della serie madre e da quel video la serie, o meglio il progetto, sarebbe poi partito.
Come ha fatto un semplice video ad ispirare un'intera serie?
Premettendo che Cooper ha alle spalle una solida carriera fatta di cortometraggi, è stata l'idea di base a catturare Peacock. Quella idea sta proprio alla base della serie ed è tutt'altro che sbagliata, tutt'altro che "furbetta".
Cooper si era immaginato come potesse essere una versione drammatica dello scanzonato Willy.
Badate bene che questa operazione che sembra assurda è, in realtà, tutt'altro che stupida.
Se ben ricordato, il nostro Willy era un ragazzo con un passato problematico, molto problematico. Un giovane afroamericano, con un talento cestistico sopraffino, molti sogni nel cassetto, intelligente, ma che aveva vissuto un'infanzia ed un'adolescenza ricca di ostacoli. La sua fuga verso Bel Air nasceva dall'esigenza di proteggerlo dalle cattive compagnie e da giovani criminali con i quali, in qualche modo, aveva intrecciato il proprio destino.

Detto questo, Bel Air non è una serie per cui strapparsi le vesti.
Carina l'idea, bravino il giovane protagonista, godibile la storia, interessante il risvolto ma in fondo di serie cosi ne abbiamo a quintalate e di serie cosi, forse, non ne abbiamo bisogno.
Quella che è venuta fuori una serie teen, un teen drama come tanti altri ne abbiamo visti.
Cosa ha di più interessante?
Il background. Scoprire le versioni più seriose e intense dei tanti protagonisti già a noi noti, ha un che di inrigante.
Spogliata di questo, però, Bel Air resta una serie discreta, forse buona ma mai vicina all'essere ottima, all'essere indimenticabile.
Se, dunque, volete fare un tuffo nei ricordi e viaggiare nei meandri della vita del nostro Willy, vi consiglio di pensarci, di sintonizzarvi su Sky e godervela tutta. Potrebbe davvero sorprendervi.
Se, invece, dell'evoluzione del giovane Willy non ve ne frega nulla o, peggio ancora, non avete mai visto un episodio della serie con Will Smith (ma dove vivete?) allora inutile approcciarsi allo show.
Non avrà nulla da offrirvi.

The wind of spinoffs/reboots never stops blowing and, indeed, in this 2022 the fire of serial reworkings seems more and more alive.
Peacock TV has helped fuel it with a sly but very intriguing operation.
Which one?
That of exhuming the legendary Willy, the Prince of Bel Air, played by Will Smith (recent Oscar winner and purged from the Academy in one fell swoop), and rebooting it in a whole new genre compared to the old and iconic series, that of drama.
And so was born Bel Air, reboot of the series mentioned above that in this 2022 had the task of justifying its existence.
Will it succeed?

There is a curious antecedent that concerns the show of Peacock TV.
Contrary to what it would be fair to imagine, the series was not born with the specific desire to resurrect something arcane and take that package of safe viewers and stick them in an indefinite reboot.
The project has much more unexpected roots that draw sap from a youtube video of its creator Morgan Cooper, who 3 years ago had launched a video parody of the mother series and from that video the series, or rather the project, would then start.
How did a simple video inspire an entire series?
Granted that Cooper has a solid career of short films behind him, it was the basic idea that captured Peacock. That idea lies at the very heart of the series and is anything but wrong, anything but "clever."
Cooper envisioned what a dramatic version of the easygoing Willy might look like.
Mind you, this seemingly absurd operation is, in fact, anything but stupid.
If you remember correctly, our Willy was a boy with a troubled past, a very troubled past. An African-American young man, with an over-the-top basketball talent, many dreams in his drawer, intelligent, but who had experienced a childhood and adolescence full of obstacles. His escape to Bel Air was born from the need to protect him from bad company and young criminals with whom he had somehow intertwined his destiny.

That being said, Bel Air is not a series to be torn apart over.
The idea is nice, the young protagonist is good, the story is enjoyable, the plot is interesting, but at the end of the day we have tons of series like this and maybe we don't need them.
What came out is a teen series, a teen drama like so many others we have seen.
What is most interesting about it?
The background. Discovering the more serious and intense versions of the many protagonists already known to us, has something inrigante.
Stripped of this, however, Bel Air remains a decent series, perhaps good but never close to being excellent, to being unforgettable.
If, therefore, you want to take a trip down memory lane and travel through the meanders of our Willy's life, I suggest you think about it, tune in to Sky and enjoy it. It could really surprise you.
If, on the other hand, you don't give a damn about the evolution of young Willy or, even worse, you have never seen an episode of the series starring Will Smith (where do you live?) then there is no point in approaching the show.
It will have nothing to offer you.
