Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

Sky ha lanciato, ad inizio 2022, una nuova serie originale con protagonista Luca Zingaretti, finalmente spogliatosi dalle vesti del commissario Montalbano.
A dirigere la serie è Giuseppe Gagliardi, nome ai più sconosciuto ma che ha realizzato, nel corso della sua giovane carriera, numerosi cortometraggi nonchè un paio di lungometraggi di cui il più celebre è sicuramente Tatanka.

Se fosse stato un film lo avremmo definito un prison movie.
L'accostamento più recente e meno forzato che mi viene in mente è quello con una pellicola italiana che l'anno scorso è uscita al cinema, dal titolo Ariaferma e con protagonisti la sensazionale coppia costituita da Toni Servillo e Silvio Orlando.

Nella serie sky, invece, tutto sembra ricondursi maggiormente ad una cornice più smaccatamente crime, con un omicidio misterioso avvenuto all'interno del carcere ed un direttore forte e potente che dovrà provare a risolverlo, senza pestare i piedi alla magistratura ma anche senza privare se stesso ed i suoi fedelissimi di una vendetta che si rende necessaria dalla natura di quel delitto e dal fatto che la vittima di quell'omicidio è stata proprio uno di loro, o meglio ancora la persona più amata e rispettata di tutto il perimetro interno alla prigione.
Il pilot ci accompagna molto meticolosamente all'interno delle dinamiche che albergano nella prigione.
Un direttore sui generis che riesce a tenere, tutto sommato, sotto controllo gli "ospiti" della prigione, ed una platea di carcerati che farebbe paura a qualsiasi direttore, essendo quella specifica prigione una sorta di ritrovo di inguaribili criminali, inviati lì proprio per essere meglio controllati e gestiti dal direttore Bruno Testori.

Il pilot, dunque, non ci offre elementi di preoccupazione se non quelli dettati dal fatto che questo show, per quanto ben diretto ed ideato, non rappresenta qualcosa di dirompente come fu, ad esempio Anna di Niccolò Ammaniti un anno fa, ne potrà mai avvicinare le vette di un drama carcerario recente e già indimenticabile come Mayor of Kingstown.

A new sky original series?

Starring Luca Zingaretti?

Set in a prison?

Sky has launched, at the beginning of 2022, a new original series starring Luca Zingaretti, finally stripped of the clothes of Commissioner Montalbano.
Directing the series is Giuseppe Gagliardi, a name unknown to most but who has made, in the course of his young career, numerous short films as well as a couple of feature films, the most famous of which is certainly Tatanka.
Gagliardi is, however, a regular at Sky and on the small screen, having directed 1992, 1993 and 1994, Sky TV series that investigated the period closely linked to Tangentopoli and that had Stefano Accorsi as the main protagonist.
With Il Re (The King), Gagliardi rediscovers Sky and Sky rediscovers Gagliardi, giving us a TV series that doesn't make us tear our hair out but that is not at all to be thrown away.

If it had been a movie, we would have called it a prison movie.
The most recent and least forced comparison that comes to mind is with an Italian film that came out in theaters last year, entitled Ariaferma and starring the sensational couple of Toni Servillo and Silvio Orlando.
Il re, recalls those atmospheres and that style, leaden and sooty, sad and dramatic that permeates Italian prisons but differs narratively from what Ariaferma set out to tell. In the film it was above all the ties, the inter-prison relationships that emerged, trying to consecrate a closed, repressed and marginalized humanity, but still pure and impetuous as everything that concerns the soul and the spirit that distinguishes any human being.
In the sky series, however, everything seems to be more related to a more blatant crime framework, with a mysterious murder occurred within the prison and a strong and powerful director who will have to try to solve it, without stepping on the toes of the judiciary but also without depriving himself and his faithful of a revenge that is necessary by the nature of that crime and the fact that the victim of that murder was one of them, or better yet the most loved and respected person of the entire perimeter inside the prison.
The pilot takes us very meticulously inside the dynamics that reside in the prison.
A sui generis warden who manages to keep, all things considered, the "guests" of the prison under control, and an audience of inmates that would scare any warden, as that specific prison is a sort of hangout for incurable criminals, sent there just to be better controlled and managed by warden Bruno Testori.
We find ourselves in a not new situation in which extreme evils are put to extreme remedies.
The state and the judiciary turn a blind eye, aware of Testori's transgressions but equally happy to see that those super criminals are kept at bay by such a determined and authoritarian person.
The murder, however, will shake up this quiet life and this silent agreement between the parties will end up creaking.
The pilot, therefore, does not offer us any elements of concern except those dictated by the fact that this show, although well directed and conceived, is not something disruptive as it was, for example, Anna by Niccolò Ammaniti a year ago, nor will it ever approach the heights of a recent and already unforgettable prison drama like Mayor of Kingstown.
The first impressions end here, I have not yet decided whether or not to continue watching the series but I fear that, thanks to a 2022 full of exciting shows, I will put aside, at least momentarily, this new all-Italian Sky TV series.
