Modern or Wild Format or Both? My Final test evaluations after three seasons played in both formats
On Splinterlands the season number 138 is underway and will end in about 12 days and 22 hours.
Since bots and battle helpers were banned in Modern Format ranked battles I chose to play only in Modern Format because I like to play only against real players like myself.
Starting in season 135 I began a test and played in both formats and at the end of each season I shared my results and evaluations on my Hive blog:
I chose to do my test and play in both formats to collect data to evaluate whether it is more convenient for me:
- play only in the Modern Format and rent my Beta and Untamed cards to other players
- or use my Beta and Untamed cards to also play in the Wild Format.
To do my test:
- I played as usual in the Modern Format with my main account: @libertycrypto27
- I played in the Wild Format with my curation account for SPT tokens: @libertygame27
- at the beginning of season 135, I divided the amount of SPS tokens in my possession equally: I delegated 48K SPS staked to libertygame27 and kept 48K SPS staked on libertycrypto27
With libertycrypto27 I used in Modern Format a card collection consisting of 893 cards = 18943 BCX worth 1624$ and a CP = 452655
With libertygame27 I used in the Wild Format a card collection consisting of 86 cards = 2212 BCX worth 732$ and a CP = 93285
After three seasons played in both formats, it was time for me to conclude my test and it was also time for me to evaluate it to choose whether to continue playing in both formats or play only in the Modern Format.
In the last season, season 137, which ended just over 2 days ago:
- libertycrypto27 finished season 137 in the Gold I league of the Modern Format: Rank: 562
- libertygame27 finished season 137 in league Diamond I of the Wild Format: Rank: 2703
In the three seasons that I have played in both formats, my playing results in Modern Format have improved because my win rate has improved even if only slightly:
- Season 135: win rate: 47.51% - Final League: Gold II.
- Season 136: win rate: 48.95% - Final League: Gold II
- Season 137: win rate: 48.97% - Final League: Gold I
Instead, my gaming results in the Wild Format have worsened:
- Season 135: win rate: 48.77% - Final League: CHAMPION III.
- Season 136: win rate: 51.38% - Final League: CHAMPION III
- Season 137: win rate: 49.28% - Final League: DIAMOND I
The effect of the Wild Pass on game results in the Wild Format is evident because:
- it produced a large decrease in players and probably many bots because libertygame27's rating decreased in season 137 compared to season 136 but the rank improved: 2703 vs 4580
- made the Wild Format less easy because my win rate decreased by just over two percentage points in the transition from season 136 to season 137
The analysis of game results are important but in my testing it is much more important to analyze the gains in SPS tokens from battle wins because it is this analysis that will weigh most heavily in my decision whether or not to continue playing both formats.
With libertycrypto27, during season 137, in the Modern Format I earned 727.23 SPS from battle wins = 4.49 SPS per battle won
With libertygame27, during season 137, in the Wild Format I earned 205.79 SPS from wins in battles = 1.30 SPS per battle won
In the next table you can see all of data I collected during the three seasons my test lasted.
In the Modern Format the average gain in SPS per battle won increased season after season and in season 137 it was 4.49 SPS per battle won with about 50K SPS staked
Also in Wild Format the average gain in SPS per battle won increased season after season and in season 137 was 1.30 SPS per battle won with about 49K SPS staked
Playing in the Wild Format with my Beta and Untamed cards allowed me to earn 205.79 SPS in season 137 but this earning is not the final earning because in the Wild Format there is the Wild Pass which is a cost to play in the Wild Format at the beginning of each season.
Based on the current value of DEC tokens and VOUCHER tokens I have calculated the cost of the Wild Pass based on the different purchase options that can be chosen.
To purchase the Wild Pass it is best to use VOUCHER tokens as a payment method because in this case you get the lowest cost: $0.6463
In season 137 I earned 205.79 SPS thanks to 158 battle victories whose dollar value is = $1.47
If I subtract from this gain the dollar cost of the Wild Pass I get a profit = $0.8286
Therefore my gain in SPS in the Wild Format in season 137 is no longer 205.79 SPS but 115.61 SPS
Playing with two accounts instead of one does not cost me much in terms of time and in terms of concentration because after more than 5 years as a Splinterlands player I know the cards and game dynamics well and because I have four monitors at my disposal and can use two monitors side by side to play without switching from one window to another.
But at the same time I think an additional income of about 115 SPS per season does not justify the delegation of half of my SPS to also play in the Wild Format.
My final assessments and considerations after my test are:
it is not so convenient for me to play also in the Wild Format because in all probability:
- I could get more by putting all my staked SPSs at the disposal of my main account playing in Modern Format = it would increase my average gain per battle win in Modern Format
- I could put my Beta and Untamed cards on the rental market and earn an amount of DEC tokens passively
the cost of the Wild Pass is easily covered by gains in SPS.
the Wild Pass most probably decreased the number of bots in the Wild Format but did not bring as much benefit in terms of SPS gain because in my test my average SPS gain per battle won went from 1.14 (Wild pass not active) to 1.30 (Wild Pass active)
The Wild Pass was created to counteract bots in the Wild Format but this solution is in my opinion a wrong or at least suboptimal solution and one that has had only partially positive effects in counteracting bots and my practical testing has confirmed this initial thesis of mine.
Any solution that affects bots but also real players is never an optimal solution in my opinion!
If bots are a problem and have always been a problem in my opinion they should be eliminated immediately instead of thinking and/or adopting partial or non-solving solutions to the bots problem!
In the current season I will only play in the Modern Format where there are no bots and battle helpers and where there are only real players like me and where, by removing the delegation in SPS to libertygame27, I will most likely gain a greater amount of SPS than in season 137 where I played in both formats.
My goals in season 138 will be the same as in the previous season:
- finish the season at least in the GOLD I league in the Modern Format.
- earn at least 50K GLINT

Formato Moderno o Formato Wild o Entrambi? Le valutazioni finali del mio test dopo tre stagioni giocate in entrambi i formati
Su Splinterlands è in corso la stagione numero 138 che terminerà tra circa 12 giorni e 22 ore.
Da quando i bots e i battle helpers sono stati vietati nelle ranked battles del Modern Format ho scelto di giocare solo nel Modern Format perchè mi piace giocare solo contro i giocatori reali come me.
A partire dalla stagione 135 ho iniziato un test e ho giocato in entrambi i formati e alla fine di ogni stagione ho condiviso i miei risultati e le mie valutazioni sul mio Hive blog:
Ho scelto di fare il mio test e di giocare in entrambi i formati per raccogliere i dati per valutare se è più conveniente per me:
- giocare solo nel Modern Format e noleggiare ad altri giocatori le mie carte Beta e Untamed
- o utilizzare le mie carte Beta e Untamed per giocare anche nel Wild Format.
Per fare il mio test:
- ho giocato come sempre nel Modern Format con il mio account principale: @libertycrypto27
- ho giocato nel Wild Format con il mio curation account per i token SPT: @libertygame27
- all'inizio della stagione 135 ho diviso in modo uguale il quantitativo di token SPS in mio possesso: ho delegato 48K SPS staked a libertygame27 e ho mantenuto 48K SPS staked su libertycrypto27
Con libertycrypto27 ho utilizzato nel Modern Format una collezione di carte composta da 893 carte = 18943 BCX del valore di 1624$ e un CP = 452655
Con libertygame27 ho utilizzato nel Wild Format una collezione di carte composta da 86 carte = 2212 BCX del valore di 732$ e un CP = 93285
Dopo tre stagioni giocate in entrambi i formati è arrivato il momento per me di concludere il mio test ed è anche arrivato il momento di valutarlo per scegliere se continuare a giocare in entrambi i formati oppure giocare solo nel Modern Format.
Nell'ultima stagione, la stagione 137, terminata poco più di 2 giorni fa:
- libertycrypto27 ha terminato la stagione 137 in lega Gold I del Modern Format: Rank: 562
- libertygame27 ha terminato la stagione 137 in lega Diamond I del Wild Format: Rank: 2703
Nelle tre stagioni in cui ho giocato in entrambi i formati, i miei risultati di gioco nel Modern Format sono migliorati perchè è migliorato il mio win rate anche se di poco:
- Season 135: win rate: 47.51% - Final League: Gold II
- Season 136: win rate: 48.95% - Final League: Gold II
- Season 137: win rate: 48.97% - Final League: Gold I
Sono invece peggiorati i miei risultati nel Wild Format:
- Season 135: win rate: 48.77% - Final League: CHAMPION III
- Season 136: win rate: 51.38% - Final League: CHAMPION III
- Season 137: win rate: 49.28% - Final League: DIAMOND I
L'effetto del Wild Pass sui risultati di gioco nel Wild Format è evidente perchè:
- ha prodotto una forte diminuzione dei giocatori e probabilmente di molti bots perchè il rating di libertygame27 è diminuito nella stagione 137 rispetto alla stagione 136 ma il rank è migliorato: 2703 vs 4580
- ha reso il Wild Format meno facile perchè il mio win rate è diminuito di poco più di due punti percentuali nel passaggio dalla stagione 136 alla stagione 137
L'analisi dei risultati di gioco sono importanti ma nel mio test è molto più importante l'analisi dei guadagni in token SPS provenienti dalle vittorie in battaglia perchè è quest'analisi che peserà maggiormente nella mia decisione di continuare a giocare o meno in entrambi i formati.
Con libertycrypto27, durante la stagione 137, nel Modern Format ho guadagnato 727.23 SPS dalle vittorie in battaglie = 4.49 SPS per battaglia vinta
Con libertygame27, durante la stagione 137, nel Wild Format ho guadagnato 205.79 SPS dalle vittorie in battaglie = 1.30 SPS per battaglia vinta
Nel prospetto seguente puoi vedere tutti di dati che ho raccolto durante le tre stagioni in cui è durato il mio test.
Nel Modern Format il guadagno medio in SPS per battaglia vinta è aumentato stagione dopo stagione e nella stagione 137 è stato di 4.49 SPS per battaglia vinta con circa 50K SPS staked
Anche nel Wild Format il guadagno medio in SPS per battaglia vinta è aumentato stagione dopo stagione e nella stagione 137 è stato di 1.30 SPS per battaglia vinta con circa 49K SPS staked
Giocare nel Wild Format con le mie carte Beta e Untamed mi ha permesso di guadagnare 205.79 SPS nella stagione 137 ma questo guadagno non è il guadagno finale perchè nel Wild Format c'è il Wild Pass che è un costo da sostenere ad ogni inizio stagione per giocare nel Wild Format.
In base al valore attuale dei token DEC e dei token VOUCHER ho calcolato il costo del Wild Pass in base alle diverse opzioni di acquisto sceglibili.
Per acquistare il Wild Pass conviene utilizzare i token VOUCHER come metodo di pagamento perchè in questo caso si ottiene il costo più basso: 0.6463$
Nella stagione 137 ho guadagnato 205.79 SPS grazie a 158 vittorie in battaglia il cui valore in dollari è = 1.47$
Se sottraggo a questo guadagno il costo in dollari del Wild Pass ottengo un profitto = 0.8286$
Per questo motivo il mio guadagno in SPS nel Wild Format nella stagione 137 non è più 205.79 SPS ma 115.61 SPS
Giocare con due accounts invece di uno non mi costa molto in termini di tempo e in termini di concentrazione perchè dopo più di 5 anni da giocatore di Splinterlands conosco bene le carte e le dinamiche di gioco e perchè ho a disposizione quattro monitors e posso usare due monitor affiancati per giocare senza passare da una finestra ad un'altra.
Ma allo stesso tempo penso che un guadagno aggiuntivo di circa 115 SPS a stagione non giustifica la delegazione di metà dei miei SPS per giocare anche nel Wild Format.
Le mie valutazioni e le mie considerazioni finali dopo il mio test sono:
non è tanto conveniente per me giocare anche nel Wild Format perchè con molta probabilità:
- potrei ottenere di più mettendo tutti i miei SPS staked a disposizione del mio account principale che gioca nel Modern Format = aumenterebbe il mio guadagno medio per vittoria in battaglia nel Modern Format
- potrei mettere le mie carte Beta e Untamed nel mercato del noleggio e guadagnare un quantitativo di token DEC in modo passivo
il costo del Wild Pass è facilmente copribile con i guadagni in SPS
- il Wild Pass ha con molta probabilità diminuito il numero di bots nel Wild Format ma non ha portato tanti benefici in termini di guadagno in SPS perchè nel mio test il mio guadagno medio in SPS per battaglia vinta è passato da 1.14 (Wild pass non attivo) a 1.30 (Wild Pass attivo)
Il Wild Pass è stato creato per contrastare i bots nel Wild Format ma questa soluzione è secondo me una soluzione sbagliata o almeno non ottimale e che ha avuto effetti solo parzialmente positivi nel contrastare i bots e il mio test pratico ha confermato questa mia tesi iniziale.
Ogni soluzione che colpisce i bots ma anche i giocatori reali non è mai una soluzione ottimale secondo me!
Se i bots sono un problema e lo sono da sempre secondo me andrebbero immediatamente eliminati invece di pensare e/o adottare soluzioni parziali o non risolutive al problema dei bots!
Nella stagione in corso giocherò solo nel Modern Format dove non ci sono bots e battle helpers e dove ci sono solo giocatori reali come me e dove, togliendo la delega in SPS a libertygame27, con molta probabilità guadagnerò un quantitativo di SPS maggiore rispetto alla stagione 137 in cui ho giocato in entrambi i formati.
I miei obiettivi nella stagione 138 saranno gli stessi della precedente:
- terminare la stagione almeno nella lega GOLD I nel Modern Format
- guadagnare almeno 50K GLINT
