Be Careful – Scammer Using Hive Username to Promote a Suspicious Crypto Platform

Scam attempts often circulate on the web, and scammers' favorite media are social networks and communication platforms such as Discord, WhatsApp, and similar.

Over time, I have received many scam attempts and have learned to recognize them almost immediately, but a new or less experienced user could easily fall into the trap.

One such attempt happened to me just today, where a Discord user tried to impersonate a well-known user in the Hive community.

Discord is a very popular communication platform widely used by the Hive community.

This morning, I received a friend request on Discord from a user with the nickname melinda010100. HIVE

The presence of the words . HIVE immediately made me suspicious.

Out of curiosity, I accepted the friend request and immediately received a greeting message.

There is a well-known and respected user on Hive: Hive account@melinda010100. She manages two communities, two contests, and is also a moderator and curator for Ecency.

The real Hive account@melinda010100 is also on Discord and is a moderator on the Hive account@ecency Discord server, but as you can see, there is no dot or the word HIVE after her nickname.

Realizing immediately that I was dealing with a scammer who wanted to impersonate Melinda, I played along and my first question was: Are you Melinda of Ecency?

I received the typical scammer response: “Oh yes, this is my backup account.”

My next question served to expose the scammer's scam

And here is the scam: an investment platform that promotes guaranteed and very high returns!

Of course, I immediately reported the scam to Discord, flagging it as impersonation, scam, or fraud.

I would have notified the real Melinda on Discord, but I didn't because she had already been notified by another user who received the same message as me.

Out of curiosity, I also checked the domain dacia-capital.com (I didn't click on the link) but I couldn't find any official sources confirming that it is a legitimate entity.

Obviously, I didn't click or invest anything, and I wrote this post because it might be useful to those who are less experienced or are new users.

The rules to follow to avoid falling into a scammer's trap are few and simple:

Never trust anyone who offers you investments with returns that are too good to be true
On Discord (but also elsewhere), always check the account name carefully:
Scammers often add dots, letters, or change a single letter to make their accounts look like well-known and famous ones.
Check the account creation date because scammers often use newly created accounts, so an account that is too new with a famous account name is already a Alarm bell.
Do not click on suspicious links and never send money or cryptocurrencies.
Report and block suspicious accounts immediately.
If you receive a message similar to the one I showed you in this post, contact and notify the authentic user on Hive immediately so that they can make a public announcement and/or report the scammer's account.

Avviso alla community – Profilo falso Hive promuove piattaforma crypto truffaldina

Sul web circolano spesso tentativi di truffa e i mezzi preferiti dagli scammer sono i social network e le piattaforme di comunicazione come Discord, WhatsApp e simili.

Nel tempo ho ricevuto molti tentativi di truffa e ho imparato a riconoscerli quasi subito ma un utente nuovo o meno esperto potrebbe facilmente cadere nella trappola.

Uno di questi tentativi mi è capitato proprio oggi, dove un utente di discord ha cercato di spacciarsi per un'utente molto conosciuta nella comunità di Hive.

Discord è una piattaforma di comunicazione molto famosa e molto utilizzata dalle comunità di Hive.

Questa mattina ho ricevuto una richiesta di amicizia su Discord da parte di un utente con il nickname melinda010100. HIVE

La presenza della scritta . HIVE mi ha immediatamente insospettito.

Per curiosità, ho accettato l'amicizia e immediatamente dopo ho ricevuto un messaggio di saluto.

Su Hive c'è un'utente molto conosciuta e stimata: Hive account@melinda010100. Gestisce due community, due contest ed è anche moderatrice e curatrice di Ecency.

La vera Hive account@melinda010100 è anche presente su Discord ed è moderatrice nel Server Discord di Hive account@ecency ma come puoi vedere non c'è il punto e la scritta HIVE dopo il suo nickname.

Avendo capito immediatamente di trovarmi di fronte ad uno scammer che voleva spacciarsi per melinda sono stato al gioco e la mia prima domanda è stata: Are you Melinda of ecency?

Ho ricevuto la tipica risposta di uno scammer: "Oh yes, This is my backup account"

La mia successiva domanda è servita per far svelare allo scammer la sua truffa

Ed ecco la truffa: una piattaforma di investimento che promuove guadagni garantiti e altissimi!

Ovviamente ho immediatamente segnalato la truffa a Discord indicandola come Sostituzione di persona, scam o frode.

Avrei avvisato la vera melinda su Discord ma non l'ho fatto perchè era stata già avvisata da un altro utente che ha ricevuto il mio stesso messaggio.

Per curiosità ho fatto anche una verifica del dominio dacia-capital.com ma non ho trovato fonti ufficiali che confermino che è un'entità legittima.

Ovviamente non ho cliccato né ho investito nulla e ho scritto questo post perchè potrebbe essere utile a chi è meno esperto oppure è un nuovo utente.

Le regole da seguire per evitare di finire nella trappola di uno scammer sono poche e semplici:

non fidarti mai di nessuno che ti propone investimenti con guadagni troppo facili per essere veri
su discord (ma anche altrove) controlla sempre bene il nome dell'account:
spesso i truffatori aggiungono punti, lettere o cambiano una sola lettera per sembrare account conosciuti e famosi.
controlla la data di creazione dell'account perchè spesso i truffatori usano account creati da poco e quindi un account troppo nuovo con un nome di un account famoso è già un campanello di allarme.
non cliccare su link sospetti e non inviare mai soldi o cryptovalute
segnala e blocca immediatamente gli account sospetti
se ricevi un messaggio simile a quello che ti ho mostrato in questo post contatta e avvisa subito anche l'utente autentico su Hive che in questo modo può fare una comunicazione pubblica e/o segnalare anche lui l'account dello scammer.
