Youth are the backbone of any country and the fate of a country depends on them. If the youth is more inclined towards the education, technology, development etc then they become the pillars of the development and if they involved them self in the drug and other bad habits them their is no one which can help the nation. The youth are power and no nation can ignore that. If positive mindset become the leaders and the lead the ways and help in building the nation. But in today time I feel the youth has been targeted by some ill minded peoples for their benefits and they do not care about anything other then earning money using any medium. What is good or bad, what will be beneficial for the society and what will create the negative effect they do not care the only thing they cares is the money. The drug is one major issue in todays society which is spreading in youth very fast and even putting varies measures this cancer is increasing every day and taking lives of hundred and thousands young peoples every year.
I am form India and belongs to the Punjab states which faces a severe drug problem, particularly among its youth. The some major reason for the same is the geographical location, unemployment, lack of awareness, corruption and specially the politics. Heroin along with the prescription medications are among the most commonly abused substances. The impacts are very heart breaking, parent lost their young kids, the family get broken, major health care issues and increase in the crime are the some of them. A study by AIIMS in year 2019 revealed that the around 2.3 million people in Punjab were using the drum in any form and 10% of them are using the high risk drug. In those big numbers the majority are young people and the percentage is 76% among the youth. In Punjab more then 800 people lost their life because of the overdose of the drug.
If I look round me then I can clearly see the issue in my society and even some of my known persons also sufferings form the same. I have two three experience to share with you people. During my engineering I first time saw such incident. I come to know that some of the students staying in the hostel were get involves in taking the drug. One of them was a Son of one ranked police officer. The hostel warden informed the parents and the parents called the student, I was sitting in the canteen when he got the call and I was observing all the activities going on their. When the parents asked their son regarding the drug issue he simply denied. That was natural he will denied and its very normal. I was surprised by the parents does not come to meet him person. The kids also trying to convince their parents and give the excuse that the warden is good and lying to them because he recently has argument with the warden form some hostel issue.
The second incident was form my village, one young people form our village lost his life in a road accident. The body was taken to the village and the cremation was completed same day and I was surprised why they have done all this is hurry. After wards I come to know that the person died was already high and to avoid the police involvement in case they completed the cremation immediately. It was another shock for me.
The government and the private rehabilitation centers were build recently but the the efforts are not seems to be insufficient and lacking the facility. The various initiatives like anti-drug campaigns has been launched by the governments and different private agencies and a special cell was also formed by the governed to take down the drug mafia, but still the challenges remains. The corruption and the political involvement is the major reason that this cancer is still spreading and it the issue can not be eliminated without the help of community, awareness and strict laws. The issue will remains the same till it will get the support form politicians which are making big money form this business.
