Hello to all Splinterlands friends!!!
Between the new Promo cards and the Rewards cards from the Rebellion edition, the updates keep coming for Splinterlands players, who are almost overwhelmed by all these innovations to study: in fact, I notice that players are still hesitant and awkward in using the new cards.
I’m in the same boat, but I try to play some test matches to study the interactions between the new cards and abilities, and the old cards and strategies we've been using for years.
And that’s what we’ll be looking at in this week’s Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!!!
The card I want to analyze today is Olivia of the Brook: an epic monster of the Life element, equipped with a double attack—1 melee and magic, medium-low Health level with 4 points, 3 Speed, and all of this at the cost of 6 mana.
But it's at level 2 that the fun begins:
Olivia of the Brook gains the new Mimic ability, which is very different from any old ability we’ve gotten used to: with Mimic, starting from Round 2, and in each subsequent round, Olivia can gain one of the abilities from the opponent's team. Additionally, she has a 25% chance of gaining the ability of the opposing card that hits her.

We’re testing in this match with a very low Mana Cap, only 19, with the Counterspell ruleset that gives Magic Reflect to all monsters on the field.
I chose the summoner General Sloan, putting Legionnaire Alvar in the Tank position, followed by Olivia of the Brook in second position, and Soul Fiend.
My opponent, however, went with a more traditional team, choosing Kelya Frendul as summoner, Thanalorian Scion, followed by Djinn Oshannus, Torrent Fiend, and Igor Darkspear.
At the start of Round 2, we see that Olivia gains the Void ability, which will give her more protection against magic attacks.
And in Round 3, Olivia gains another ability that will give her even more protection from magic attacks, Void Armor.
The abilities available to copy with Mimic were already exhausted by Round 4, so Olivia had to “settle” for 5 abilities until Round 6.
The team I chose was too unbalanced, and I lost the match quite decisively, but it was a good experiment to understand how this new Mimic ability works. We need to figure out the use cases where it’s better to deploy Olivia of the Brook, compared to cards that cost 6 Mana but have much higher stats and firepower than this card.

Tra le nuove carte Promo e e quelle Rewards dell'edizione Rebellion, le novità non cessano di arrivare per i giocatori di Splinterlands, che sono quasi confusi da tutte queste innovazioni da studiare: infatti, mi sembra di notare che i giocatori siano ancora timidi e impacciati ad usare la nuove carte.
Anch'io sono nella stessa situazione, però cerco di fare delle partite di prova, per studiare le interazioni tra le nuove carte e abilità, e quelle vecchie e le vecchie strategie che usiamo da anni.
Ed è quello che vedremo nel Splinterlands Social Media Challenge di questa settimana !!!
La carta che voglio analizzare oggi è Olivia of the Brook: mostro epico dell'elemento Life , dotato di doppio attacco di 1 di melee e magia , livello di Health medio basso con 4 punti, 3 di Speed, e tutto questo al costo di 6 mana.
Ma è al livello di potenziamento 2 che inizia il divertimento:
Olivia of the Brook guadagna la nuova abilità Mimic, che è molto diversa da qualsiasi vecchia abilità che abbiamo imparato a conoscere: con Mimic, a partire dal Round 2, ed ad ogni round successivo, Olivia può guadagnare una delle abilità delle squadra avversaria, e , inoltre, ha il 25% di possibilità di guadagnare l'abilità della carta avversaria che riesce a colpirla.

Facciamo le nostre prove in questa partita dal Mana Cap molto basso, solo 19, con il ruleset Counterspell che dona Magic Reflect a tutti mostri in campo.
Io ho scelto l'evocatore General Sloan, mettendo Legionnaire Alvar in prosizione Tank, seguito proprio da Olivia of the Brook in seconda posizione, seguito da Soul Fiend.
Invece, il mio avversario, ha scelto una squadra molto più tradizionale, con Kelya Frendul come evocatore , Thanalorian Scion, seguito da Djinn Oshannus, Torrent Fiend, e Igor Darkspear.
All'inizio del Round 2 , vediamo che Oliva guadagna l'abilità Void, che la proteggerà di più rispetto agli attacchi magici.
E al round 3, Olivia guadagna una ulteriore abilità , che la proteggerà ancora di più dagli attacchi magici, ovvero Void Armor.
Le abilità a disposizione da copiare con Mimic sono finite già al Round 4, quindi Olivia si è dovuta "accontentare" di 5 abilità da portare fino al Round 6.
La squadra che ho scelto era troppo squilibrata, ed ho perso dunque la partita in maniera netta, però è stato un bell'esperimento per capire com funziona questa nuova abilità Mimic.
Bisogna capire quali sono i casi d'uso in cui è meglio schierare Oliva of the Brook , rispetto a carte che costano 6 Mana, ma che hanno stats e potenza di fuoco molto più alti rispetto a questa carta.
