"Fenmoor Haunt" // My entry to the Splinterlands art contest (310)

I felt like I put myself in a situation where I almost wanted to give up on completing this because the pressure was getting to me, but I eventually pushed through and made it happen. It was such a relief when I added the background and finally finished this piece for the Splinterlands community!

The other day, I started a sketch inspired by FENMOOR HAUNT, a character from the Splinterlands card game.

FENMOOR HAUNT is a favorable character in Splinterlands due to its versatility and powerful abilities. Its Sneak ability allows it to target backline monsters, which can disrupt the enemy’s strategy by weakening or eliminating key support characters. Additionally, as the card levels up, it gains the Void ability for magic resistance and Scavenge, allowing it to grow stronger by gaining health when monsters die, making it especially valuable in both low and high mana battles.

I would say that FENMOOR HAUNT is an interesting character, both in the game and as inspiration for fan art. While its design is relatively simple in terms of details, it has a distinctive appearance that I believe will stand out in any artwork.

So, I gave it a try by creating a stance that showcases his readiness to strike, poised to attack in a single swift movement as soon as the enemy acts—almost like a samurai.

Here's the process of my artwork: starting with a rough sketch, I finalized the lines in Photoshop using an oblong-shaped brush to create distinct variations in line thickness. I used this technique to make the artwork feel less uniform and more organic, giving it a human-like touch.

Once I was happy with the lines, I went straight into coloring the character.

The part I enjoyed the most was shading the dark areas and highlighting the bright spots!

To finalize the artwork, I manually created a gradient with a brown hue and layered some textures to add variety to the surface. And here’s the result!

I’m thrilled with how this piece turned out despite the challenges I faced along the way. The process of bringing FENMOOR HAUNT to life was both demanding and rewarding, and I'm proud to have created a stance that captures its essence.

Thank you for joining me on this artistic journey, and I hope you enjoy the final result as much as I enjoyed making it!
