Este semestre ha estado lleno de emociones, risas, estrés, evolución y, sobre todo, aprendizaje; aunque regresé a la universidad con muchísimo más conocimiento que antes, las clases me ayudaron a reforzar como perfeccionar lo que ya sabía sin dejar de mencionar la gran cantidad de información como técnicas nuevas que aprendí para mejorar considerablemente mis proyectos. Admito que no fue fácil y pasaron días en los que no quería levantarme de la cama, solo quería quedarme durmiendo y descansar porque ya el agotamiento mental era enorme pero algo que sí me caracteriza a mí es que si me apasiona, ni porque se esté acabando el mundo me detengo.
Todo el cansancio aumentó exponencialmente cuando las semanas finales del semestre se acercaban, todos los profesores estaban enviando proyectos y tareas que consumían mucho tiempo como energía, yo ya no sabía cómo subdividirme para poder realizarlas todas pero con mucha ayuda, apoyo, motivación, disciplina y organización, lo logré.
Como yo sé que este post será algo largo, voy a dividirlo en varios tópicos para que la lectura no se haga tan pesada y por si quieren leer temas específicos que también es válido.
This semester has been full of emotions, laughter, stress, evolution and, above all, learning; although I returned to the university with much more knowledge than before, the classes helped me to reinforce and perfect what I already knew, not to mention the large amount of information and new techniques that I learned to significantly improve my projects. I admit that it was not easy and there were days when I didn't want to get out of bed, I just wanted to stay asleep and rest because the mental exhaustion was already enormous but something that characterizes me is that if I am passionate about it, not even if the world is ending I won't stop.
All the tiredness increased exponentially when the final weeks of the semester were approaching, all the professors were sending projects and tasks that consumed a lot of time and energy, I did not know how to subdivide myself to be able to do them all but with a lot of help, support, motivation, discipline and organization, I managed to do it.
As I know this post will be a bit long, I am going to divide it into several topics so that the reading does not become so heavy and if you want to read specific topics that is also valid.
Experiencia Personal
Este semestre y, sobre todo, esta materia fue de aprendizaje a su máxima expresión, el hecho de que casi cada semana realizáramos un corto, por más simple que sea te daba mucha experiencia y seguridad para los futuros proyectos así que ya para este corto final me sentía más segura con el tema de la realización, cosa que antes no me pasaba porque le tenía miedo a equivocarme o dañar algo.
Este punto voy a subdividirlo en 3 partes más porque quiero ser bastante específica en la forma que sobrellevé cada experiencia que viví durante este rodaje.
Personal Experience
This semester and, above all, this subject was learning at its best, the fact that almost every week we made a short film, no matter how simple it was, gave you a lot of experience and security for future projects, so for this final short film I felt more confident with the subject of the realization, something that didn't happen to me before because I was afraid of making a mistake or damaging something.
I'm going to subdivide this point into 3 more parts because I want to be very specific in the way I dealt with each experience I lived during this shooting.
Experiencia con el Rodaje
Como mencioné más arriba, no fue mi primera vez como tal en un rodaje debido a que durante todo el semestre estuvimos grabando diferentes cortos pero este rodaje fue diferente debido a que tuvimos que implementar muchos pasos y requerimientos que antes no hicimos.
Para los cortos anteriores, por temas de tiempo, los hicimos muy apresurados y muchos quedaron un poco feos o carecían de una calidad apropiada; se puede decir coloquialmente que los hacíamos a los golpes pero esto nos ayudó demasiado a poder adaptarnos a cualquier circunstancia que se nos presentara y hacer algo bueno o al menos medianamente bueno.
Para este rodaje necesitamos guion literario y guion técnico, aunque esto es un poco complicado de hacer cuando no tienes mucha experiencia utilizando estás herramientas, realmente la ayuda que da es gigantesca porque te da una línea de orden para poder realizar todas las tomas y escenas correspondientes sin importar si se graba la escena final de primero y así intercaladas.
Experience with Shooting
As I mentioned above, it wasn't my first time as such on a shoot because during the whole semester we were shooting different short films but this shoot was different because we had to implement many steps and requirements that we didn't do before.
For the previous short films, due to time issues, we made them in a hurry and many of them were a bit ugly or lacked proper quality; you can say colloquially that we made them in a hurry but this helped us a lot to be able to adapt to any circumstance that came our way and make something good or at least moderately good.
For this shoot we needed a literary script and a technical script, although this is a bit complicated to do when you don't have much experience using these tools, it really helps a lot because it gives you a line of order to be able to do all the corresponding shots and scenes regardless of whether you shoot the final scene first and so on.
Experiencia Dirigiendo por Primera Vez
Algo que tengo que exponer es que yo no quería este rol porque, realmente, siempre le he huido a los roles donde tengas a muchas personas bajo tu cargo, mis inseguridades me cohíben demasiado pero mi equipo, básicamente, me impuso este rol porque todos estaban de acuerdo en que yo era la mejor postora para dirigir este corto; para empezar que la historia la hice yo desde cero basándome en la idea de un compañero, eso me daba una mejor visión de la historia y cómo debería desarrollarse.
Tenía muchas dudas y miedo, no quería ese rol porque no me sentía nada segura pero el hecho de que ya todos fueran mis amigos me daba un poco más de confianza de darles ciertas ordenes e indicaciones, de igual forma mientras pasaban las horas de rodaje me empecé a desenvolver mucho más y mi miedo dejó de ser tan fuerte. Algo que me ayudó muchísimo fue el Guion Técnico como el Director de Fotografía, los dos tenemos una visión muy parecida con respecto a la narración cinematográfica y eso nos ayuda muchísimo a la hora de grabar porque nos entendemos muy bien.
Admito que me gustó mucho dirigir pero todavía me falta mucho por aprender de este rol porque la presión me consume a niveles desmedidos y eso no es bueno para el rodaje porque puede llegar a atrasar como da pie a errores; la presión y el estrés es algo que nunca he aprendido a manejar pero aquí debo agradecer demasiado a mi Mo @dimeilaz porque ha sido la persona que más me ayudado a sobrellevar esos momentos donde me abrumo y pierdo el control de mis emociones como pensamientos. Como ya he mencionado en anteriores post, tengo un proyecto personal que es crear mi propia productora apoyada por Hive y al ser mi proyecto me tocará ser la cabeza de este, lo que significa que mis días de directora apenas comienzan.
First Time Directing Experience
Something I have to expose is that I didn't want this role because, really, I've always shied away from roles where you have a lot of people under you, my insecurities make me too self-conscious but my team basically imposed this role on me because they all agreed that I was the best applicant to direct this short film; to start with that I made the story from scratch based on a partner's idea, that gave me a better vision of the story and how it should develop.
If you want to read the Literary Script, here you have the link I had many doubts and fear, I didn't want that role because I didn't feel safe but the fact that they were all my friends gave me a little more confidence to give them certain orders and indications, likewise as the hours of shooting went by I began to develop much more and my fear was no longer so strong. Something that helped me a lot was the Technical Script as the Director of Photography, we both have a very similar vision regarding the cinematographic narrative and that helps us a lot when shooting because we understand each other very well.
If you want to read the Technical Script,, here you have the link I admit that I really enjoyed directing but I still have a lot to learn from this role because the pressure consumes me to excessive levels and that is not good for the shooting because it can get to delay as it gives rise to errors; pressure and stress is something that I have never learned to handle but here I must thank my Mo @dimeilaz because he has been the person who has helped me most to cope with those moments where I get overwhelmed and lose control of my emotions and thoughts. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I have a personal project which is to create my own production company supported by Hive and being my project I will be the head of it, which means that my days as a director are just beginning.
Editando en Equipo
Algo que sí no había hecho nunca es editar un material entre varias personas, siempre mis contenidos los edito yo misma así que es solamente mi visión del proyecto, claro que siempre le pido opiniones y sugerencias a mi Mo pero de igual forma el material lo sigo editando yo sola; en esta oportunidad tuve que compartir el trabajo con dos personas más y eso fue una experiencia muy curiosa para mí, el tener que delegar responsabilidades de este estilo es algo a lo que no estaba acostumbrada y me costaba "confiar" en la visión de las otras personas para hacer lo que ya estaba en mi cabeza.
La mayor parte de la edición la hice yo porque, como fui quién escribió el guion, tenía la visión de cómo debía editarse el corto, mis compañeros me ayudaron a editar también con consejos y sugerencias; en la parte de audio se encargó mi Mo @dimeilaz arreglando las voces como el sonido ambiente como grabando, editando y agregando las voces en off en el corto. Algo que no he comentado es que el corto que se presentó hoy en la Sala Margot Benacerraf no es exactamente el mismo que ustedes están viendo acá y es porque ese corto tiene la canción de Bruno Mars, Locked Out Of Heaven, por requerimientos de la asignación pero por temas de copyright no podía usar ese mismo audio acá en Hive así que tuve que editarlo; la sonoridad que se utilizó para el corto que entregamos la editó mi compañera Gillians, ella hizo un trabajo increíble para poder incluir la canción y que no se sintiera fuera de lugar, yo me encargué de hacer esta sonoridad con audios de libre uso pero que le dieran esa sensación de tensión constante.
Audios Utilizados:
El Flyer lo editó mi Mo @dimeilaz junto a mi otro compañero, David quién fue también quien hizo de "Demonio" debido a su altura; considero que fue uno de los mejores flyers que he visto en mi vida y el mejor que he visto con respecto a un proyecto estudiantil, quedó demasiado hermoso y cautiva mucho la esencia de el corto, como también, ellos entendieron demasiado bien cuál era mi visión con respecto a el flyer e incluso lo hicieron muchísimo mejor a lo que yo pensaba. Crearlo fue un proceso porque se estaba utilizando Canva pero la fuente que quería utilizar para este no se encontraba ahí así que tuvimos que ponerla con Inshot y corregirle algunos detalles como el del color con PicsArt.
Editing in Team
Something I had never done before is to edit a material between several people, I always edit my contents myself so it is only my vision of the project, of course I always ask my Mo for opinions and suggestions but I still edit the material by myself; this time I had to share the work with two more people and that was a very curious experience for me, having to delegate responsibilities of this style is something I was not used to and it was hard for me to "trust" the vision of the other people to do what was already in my head.
Most of the editing was done by me because, as I was the one who wrote the script, I had the vision of how the short should be edited, my colleagues helped me to edit also with advice and suggestions; in the audio part my Mo @dimeilaz was in charge of arranging the voices as the ambient sound as recording, editing and adding the voiceovers in the short. Something I haven't mentioned is that the short that was presented today in the Margot Benacerraf Room is not exactly the same as the one you are seeing here and that's because that short has the Bruno Mars song, Locked Out Of Heaven, due to assignment requirements but due to copyright issues I couldn't use that same audio here in Hive so I had to edit it; the sound that was used for the short film we delivered was edited by my partner Gillians, she did an incredible job to include the song and not to make it feel out of place, I was in charge of making this sound with free audio but that gave it that feeling of constant tension.
Audios Used:
The Flyer was edited by my Mo @dimeilaz together with my other partner, David who also played the role of "Demon" due to his height; I consider it was one of the best flyers I have seen in my life and the best I have seen regarding a student project, it was too beautiful and it captivates the essence of the short film, they also understood very well what my vision was regarding the flyer and they even made it much better than I thought it would be. Creating it was a process because they were using Canva but the font I wanted to use for this one wasn't there so we had to put it with Inshot and correct some details like the color with PicsArt
Detalles Técnicos
Este puede ser el punto que menos le interese a los "mortales" como los llama mi profesor pero fueron los puntos que más me impresionaron de todo este proceso.
Equipo de Grabación
Sé que al ver el corto lo primero que pensaron es que fue rodado con una cámara especial para grabar y de una calidad increíble pero no, todo se grabo con un Xiaomi MI 10T apoyado de un trípode roto; este teléfono tiene una cámara increíble, de verdad es demasiado hermoso la calidad de vídeo y su estabilizador es una locura, tanto que tuvimos que mover demás una toma para dar esa sensación de inestabilidad porque la escena lo requería.
Audio
De igual forma, al escuchar el corto pensarían que se grabó con un Micrófono Boom o algún equipo de audio de máxima calidad pero tampoco fue el caso, los audios principales se grabaron con los micrófonos de balita inalámbricas que utilizamos normalmente para grabar nuestros vlogs; sí hubo muchos detalles con algunos audios pero nada que en edición no se pudiese arreglar. Por otro lado, las voces en off sí se grabaron con un buen micrófono porque se utilizó el Neewer NW-800 el cuál es el que usa mi Mosi @dimeilaz normalmente para sus programas, covers, gameplays y más.
Iluminación
Con esto lo mismo, aunque sí utilizamos mucho lo que es la luz natural, apoyándonos con reflectores y rebotadores, para ciertas escenas utilizamos un aro de luz convencional o unas luces LED Photography Ligth para más potencia.
Paleta de Colores
Aunque esto es más un detalle de edición, también influyó mucho el trabajo del equipo de Dirección de Arte para que todos los objetos, ambientes y vestuarios tuvieran una misma armonía con los colores; yo me encargué de la colerización y fue súper sencilla de hacerla por ese mismo detalle.
Technical Details
This may be the point of least interest to "mortals" as my professor calls them but they were the points that impressed me the most in this whole process.
Recording Equipment
I know that when you saw the short film the first thing you thought is that it was shot with a special camera to record and an incredible quality but no, everything was recorded with a Xiaomi MI 10T supported by a broken tripod; this phone has an incredible camera, it really is too beautiful video quality and its stabilizer is crazy, so much so that we had to move another shot to give that feeling of instability because the scene required it.
Audio
Similarly, when listening to the short film you would think that it was recorded with a Boom Microphone or some high quality audio equipment but it was not the case, the main audios were recorded with wireless bullet microphones that we normally use to record our vlogs; yes there were many details with some audios but nothing that in editing could not be fixed. On the other hand, the voiceovers were recorded with a good microphone because we used the Neewer NW-800 which is the one that my Mosi @dimeilaz normally uses for his shows, covers, gameplays and more.
Illumination
With this the same, although we do use a lot of natural light, relying on reflectors and bouncers, for certain scenes we use a conventional ring light or a LED Photography Ligth lights for more power.
Color Palette
Although this is more of an editing detail, the work of the Art Direction team also had a great influence so that all the objects, environments and costumes had the same harmony with the colors; I was in charge of the colorization and it was super simple to do because of that same detail.

Este proyecto ha sido uno de los más grandes en los que he estado involucrada, hoy la proyección fue increíble y mi profesor está muy orgulloso de nosotros, nos elogio como nos felicitó bastante por todo nuestro esfuerzo como trabajo; debo agradecer muchísimo a mi Mo @dimeilaz por apoyarme con este proyecto y ofrecerse a actuar en el papel protagónico cuando él nunca había actuado a este nivel.

This project has been one of the biggest projects I've been involved in, today the screening was amazing and my teacher is very proud of us, he praised us and congratulated us for all our effort and work; I must thank my Mo @dimeilaz for supporting me with this project and offering to act in the lead role when he had never acted at this level.
