The painting was attributed to Piero della Francesca, Luciano Laurana, Melozzo da Forli and Francesco di Giorgio Martini. It is so ideal itself that it seems to have more to do with dehumanized 20th century art than with humanist Renaissance. When reproduced it is almost always cropped. It is somehow refreshing to see the rough edges and the narrow strip of raw wood at the edge.
