I remember the days when I wasn't a Christian....
In love with the world. I was living for myself. And I thought I had it all figured out.
But still, God was drawing me into Him. I would hear verses from the bible in my daily life, and actually remember them. I would hear sayings here and there, that was actual Scripture, and I didn't put it together until I read the bible for myself. But all along this journey in the flesh, I seemed to remember these verses and biblical sayings that I picked up over the years.
One of those verses was 1 Corinthians chapter 13, verse 11...
I can't remember exactly when I first heard this verse, but for as long as I can remember...It's been ingrained in my mind.
This happened alot in my early life, which is kind of crazy because...I didn't grow up in the church. In fact, I was as secular as you can be. And while I never doubted in the existence of God, I always steered clear of organized religion and it's textbook - The Bible.
But here I was...Committing verses to memory throughout my life without even knowing it.
God is always at work :)
Which brings me to arguably one of the most important chapters in not only 1 Corinthians, but I would argue in the entire New Testament...
The love chapter!
In today's #biblejournal post, I want to highlight this incredible insight into the character of God because we know from 1 John 4:8....God is love.
Now in the King James Version (which I read) the word love doesn't appear in this chapter....Unless you see what the word 'charity' actually means in the Greek. Charity is love.
Some of the most important in all of Scripture is found here....
Here Paul lays the truth out for us all.....We can know the bible from front to cover. We can have all the faith in God as possible so that we could remove mountains. But if we don't have love in our hearts, we are nothing.
Powerful stuff. Especially when you hear of what some unbelievers may think of the Christians and our great hope. The problem always comes down to that we don't have the character of God in our hearts....Which is love.
This is so powerful, and while I could go on and on about every single verse in this chapter, the last one really and I mean really hammers the point home for us...
I'm not sure anything else needs to be said...
I hope you guys are as blessed as I was when I read this chapter :)
