If Jesus hung on the cross then anybody can obtain mercy.
This is why mercy breaks protocols. There are many people who receive even when they don't have faith, because mercy is a breaker of protocols and that is also the benevolence that the gospel makes available. Be persuaded in your heart that is impossible to remain in that circumstances because mercy speaks for you.
The gospel is the revelation of the wisdom of God.
1 Corinthians 2:6-8
Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
When Jesus was walking on earth in:
John 12 vs 32
And I, when I am lifted up[a] from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
The devil didn't know the meaning of the passage above, they were rather angry because Jesus was casting everywhere and stopping their agenda. And so when they ganged up, they said "the only thing to do to this man is to kill him". Meanwhile they didn't know that what they called kill him is only the channel for him to be lifted up.
We live by his mercy, because Jesus Christ has paid the price for us.
