The "Ratoh Duek" Dance by My Students - Monomad

The "Ratoh Duek" dance is a traditional dance originating from the region where I currently reside, namely the province of Aceh, Indonesia. As a cultural treasure of the Indonesian nation, this dance, which has existed for hundreds of years, is still preserved to this day. Despite undergoing many modifications, the messages conveyed through its lyrics and movements remain unchanged.

As a traditional dance, it is only fitting that efforts are made to preserve its authenticity. One way to do this is by teaching the dance to the younger generation, particularly to students.

In an event at our school, the "Ratoeh Duek" dance was successfully performed by my students. Their performance was captivating and left the audience in awe. Applause resonated from the spectator stands as the dancers gracefully moved their hands.

True to its name, this dance is performed while sitting. The dancers sit cross-legged, as you can see in these photos. They also use their fingers to follow the lyrics sung by a "syeh." The lyrics contain messages of goodness in daily life.

Harmony and synchronization are evident in the collection of photos I am sharing for the #monomad daily challenge curated by @monochromes. I hope you enjoy them!
