Country Living -Today's entry for the #Monomad contest

Country Living

I always enjoy visiting my family in the Southern tier of New York state. There is nothing like enjoying some peace and tranquility on a country farm. These photos are taken on this property that my grandparents once owned. It has since been bought by another member of our family to keep it in the family for generations to come.

Split Rail Fences

One of my dear cousins dug every hole and put up the fences all by himself. I think the older the wood gets the more character they add to the land. Keeping the property cared for can be a daunting task with over 46 acres belonging to the old homestead. Thankfully he leases out some of the acreage to a local farmer to manage.

Covered Bridge

Here is another project that he took on by building this bridge that crosses the small creek that flows through the middle of the property. I used to walk in the creek looking for crayfish and salamanders as a young girl. Growing up here was any child's dream come true. The cows, chickens, ducks, and old hound dogs kept me quite entertained.

Back Porch Seating

These benches surround the wrap-around porch overlooking the creek and two good-sized ponds. Can you imagine sitting here with your morning cup of coffee watching the deer and turkeys visit for a morning drink as the steam rises off the water? Later on in the day, you can spend a lazy afternoon lying underneath the tree with a fish pole. Now that is some real country living at its best.
