Chopper - Monomad Challenge

Hail to the Hive!

We scored a real score of free wood the other day and completely covered the roof of Badger the Narrowboat with logs of maple wood. So today, seeing as how the weather was good, I spent the day sawing and chopping up maple logs.

My mission was to saw them and chop them into sizes that will fit into our solid fuel burner onboard Badger.

Obviously it means they will fit into the stove but it will also speed up the drying time as they will need time to dry out.

It’s unlikely that we will be able to use these logs this winter but I am already preparing for next year and we already have quite a lot currently drying/ seasoning in my sisters out buildings at her house in Leicester. This is assuming she doesn’t burn them all herself as she has open fires there and I did say it was ok for her to use some.

There is something incredibly satisfying about this whole process. It’s a real physical and straightforward task with an obvious and straightforward goal.

The sawing is quite tedious but the axe….

There’s something so right about the feeling of splitting wood with an axe.

I do ache a little and will be doing this again tomorrow but it was such a productive and fun day today I am looking forward to doing it all over again.
