“After having denounced and stigmatized graffiti and drawings as vandalism, after having oppressed the youth cultures that produced them, after having cleared the places that were workshops for those artists, now the strong powers of the city want to become the saviors of street art." (Wu Ming)
I have never liked to categorize, to box the meaning of things in non-communicating drawers, to define absolutely without the possibility of appealing. This is why I am happy that the opinion on street art has changed so much over time, so much so that it breaks the pre-established patterns that imposed as art only certain products that met conventionally established requirements.
Art cannot be packaged in schematized clichés, but must be freedom of personal and original expression of each one. Thus urban art has taken possession of the street, of public places accessible to all, and has become, for those who appreciate it, an open-air museum.

Non mi è mai piaciuto categorizzare, inscatolare il significato delle cose in cassetti non comunicanti, definire in modo assoluto senza la possibilità di ricorrere in appello. Per questo mi rende felice il fatto che l'opinione sull'arte di strada si sia cosi tanto modificata nel tempo, tanto da rompere gli schemi pre-costituiti che imponevano come arte solo determinati prodotti che rispondevano a requisiti fissati in modo convenzionale. L'arte non può essere confezionata in clichè schematizzati, ma deve essere libertà di espressione personale e originale di ognuno. Cosi l'arte urbana si è impadronita della strada, dei luoghi pubblici accessibili a tutti, ed è diventata, per chi la apprezza, un museo a cielo aperto.
