Hay lugares en La Habana a los que no nos cansamos de ir. Ubicado a la entrada del puerto de La Habana, a la izquierda, entre la fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña y el pueblo de Casa Blanca, se encuentra la estatua conocida como El Cristo de La Habana. Una colosal escultura, obra de la artista cubana Lilia Gilma Madera Valiente (1915-2001).

There are places in Havana that we never tire of going to. Esta escultura se levanta 51 metros sobre el nivel del mar, y para su ejecución se utilizaron unas 600 toneladas de mármol blanco de Carrara. En tres ocasiones, sufrió impactos de rayos, que provocaron roturas , hasta que en 1986 le fue ubicado un pararrayos.
En el año 2010 se comenzó una restauración profunda, lo que le ganó al equipo encargado el Premio Nacional de Restauración 2013,"...por el diagnóstico certero y la intervención restauradora integral de un monumento escultórico de dimensiones excepcionales que implicó múltiples y complejas tareas técnicas y artísticas llevadas a cabo por un equipo multidisciplinario, y por haber rescatado con absoluta rigurosidad un hito importante de la ciudad y su panorama, además, de que el expediente asume, de forma excepcional normas y recomendaciones para garantizar su mantenimiento y conservación en el tiempo, teniendo en cuenta la agresividad permanente del medio ambiente marítimo portuario. This sculpture rises 51 meters above sea level, and about 600 tons of white Carrara marble were used for its execution. On three occasions, it suffered lightning strikes, which caused breakages, until in 1986 a lightning rod was placed on it. In 2010, a deep restoration began, which won the team in charge the 2013 National Restoration Award, "...for the accurate diagnosis and comprehensive restorative intervention of a sculptural monument of exceptional dimensions that involved multiple and complex technical and artistic tasks carried out by a multidisciplinary team, and for having rescued with absolute rigor an important landmark of the city and its panorama, in addition, that the file assumes, in an exceptional way, rules and recommendations to guarantee its maintenance and conservation in time, taking into account the permanent aggressiveness of the maritime port environment.

Casi todos los cubanos que vivimos o han estado de paso por La Habana, visitamos este lugar varias veces en nuestras vidas. La tranquilidad del espacio, las inmejorables vistas hacia la capital y la bahía, hacen una fiesta para cualquier fotógrafo.
En esta ocasión más que en la bahía, me quise centrar en la escultura y sus detalles. Las manos del Cristo, al verlas a través del lente (más cercanas), me transmitían tranquilidad, seguridad, como las manos de un padre. Me llamaron mucho la atención, y saqué una serie de fotos de las cuales les dejo acá una pequeña muestra que espero que disfruten.

Almost all Cubans who live (or have been passing through Havana), we visit this place several times in our lives. The tranquility of the space, the unbeatable views of the capital and the bay, make a party for any photographer. This time, more than in the bay, I wanted to focus on the sculpture and its details. The hands of El Cristo, when seen through the lens (closer), gave me tranquility, security, like the hands of a father. They caught my attention, and I took a series of photos of which I leave here a small sample that I hope you enjoy.
