Tung Chung Bay in Black and White (and some Souls in Solitude)

14th April 2024

Most of the time, I wander alone to find solace with my own company — sometimes in the woods, sometimes along the bay — just somewhere in a place where I could be with nature, hoping it could help me clear my mind and restore my soul. As for me, I could think clearly, I have more time for introspection, and I appreciate more the beauty around me in the depths of solitude.

Along Tung Chung Bay, I found solace in the breeze, the sea, and the descending sun. Mother Nature started to paint picturesque views during this period, and being along the tranquil bay was an opportunity to capture the beautiful scenery that unfolded before my eyes. That was also the reason why I chose to stay for a while along the bay. I wanted to watch the beautiful transition from day to sunset. It's a relaxing beauty to behold.

The sun started to create an illuminating pathway in the water. This is one of the sunset views I am waiting to catch. Watching the shimmering water is mesmerizing. The water is peaceful and still, like my lonely soul. But at some point, I also yearn for human connections. Those are the days when I want some fun, noise, and adventure with a group.

And there she goes, the lady in solitude against the vast shimmering water. Not just one, but two, located a few steps from each other. It seemed as though I wasn't the only one who wanted to be alone along the bay. While watching the lonely lady from the back, I could feel the sense of solitude enveloping her. We're like souls who feel lost and isolated from the world around us. The tranquil bay with boats and fishermen is the witness to our loneliness.

A lonely soul was spotted again, but perhaps he didn't feel lonely. It was as if he had found a companion with the fish he was trying to catch, lol. He reminded me of someone who likes fishing alone. @coolmidwestguy, is that you?

An empty, lonely boat on the other side was waiting for his fisherman to board. This type of boat can be a home for a while. Don't you think?

At least, these souls aren't alone on their own. It seems like the bay is a good spot for fishing. At the end of the day, those fishermen have free fish to serve on their tables.

I decided to take a walk after some time watching the waterfront's tranquil views. This time, I watched what people do on this side of the promenade. Some people would go biking in this area. Some would do photography. Some would jog along with others.

From the distance, those cable cars look tiny, dangling from the wires. The flow is smooth and constant. This connects Tung Chung to Ngong Ping Village where iconic attractions are found, such as the Big Buddha, the village itself, and other else.

Getting closer to the bridge was getting closer to the crowd with a more lively scenery. I heard the hum of conversations around, laughter, and the rhythm of music from different domestic workers occupying resting platforms. My sense of solitude began to dissolve. I began to wander my eyes to things, activities, and people around me.

The bridge looked overcrowded, and you might feel a sense of fear looking at it. But with Hong Kong's reliable infrastructure, you're assured that it won't fall. I visited this place during the CNY. Those people were looking forward to seeing cherry blossom garden nearby. It was another attraction worth visiting, albeit a bit late.

I continued walking carrying the echoes of the bay, the whispers of the wind, while watching the shimmering water as the sun descend with a quiet presence. I spent more time watching the picturesque views before I called it a day.

Along with the photos I took, a profound experience was acquired, and I left the place with a content heart and mind.

This will serve as my entry for this week's #MonomadChallenge.

Thanks for your time.
