18th February 2024

We recently celebrated the Spring Festival which coincides with Chinese New Year, and one of the significant elements of both celebrations is the cherry blossom which symbolizes renewal, hope, and prosperity. As winter gives way to spring, cherry blossom trees burst into bloom again transforming landscapes into beautiful displays of pure and pretty shades of pink and white.
The HKIA Cherry Blossom Garden in Chek Lap Kok, Tung Chung on the southern part of Lantau Island is the best place to see cherry blossoms during Spring Festival in Hong Kong. The cherry blossoms began to bloom in January, so when I visited on the 11th of February, most of the flowers had already fallen, and there were only a few trees left with blossoming branches.
Even though the majority of the flowers have fallen, a large number of people still visit this garden in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the last cherry blossoms before they all gently fall away. It was my first visit to the garden even after working here for more than six years now. I felt bad for missing the opportunity to visit this location when the trees were still in full bloom last month. However, I managed to photograph the remaining gorgeous and fragrant cherry blossoms.
This garden is located along the iconic 360° Cable Car line, so hanging cars on cables adds charm to the backdrop. They sure are pretty shots of cable cars with cherry blossom flowers. I couldn't resist taking pictures of them at different angles and times.
Cherry blossom flowers not only show a display of beauty, but also fragrance. The air is filled with its scent attracting cute little winged creatures. There were a lot of butterflies all over cherry blossom trees, flying from one tree to another; sucking and enjoying the sweet nectar and pollens, and adding beauty to the already picturesque scenery. The soft pink and white petals of cherry blossoms with cute butterflies bring a sense of delicate grace and awe. Both are beautiful and graceful.
Looking at these two beautiful creatures: cherry blossom and butterfly, reminds me to appreciate the present moment and surrounding beauty. Because just like theirs, our life is fleeting but beautiful. So let's cherish every moment, and appreciate nature and life.
How to get to HKIA Cherry Blossom Garden?
You can take the bus or walk to get to this garden. Walking on foot is preferable though, as there are more picturesque spots to capture along the way.
From Tung Chung MTR station, walk towards Ngong Ping Cable Car Station and walk past Tat Tung Road. You'll see a flyover at the end, go up, and head toward Tung Chung Waterfront. Head towards Chek Lap Lok South Road and cross the bridge. It's easy to spot this garden as it is just located along the roadside below the foot of Scenic Hill and Cable Car towers.
Or simply follow the cable car line until you reach the foot of Scenic Hill in the photo below.
But if you are in Hong Kong and want to visit cherry blossoms in this garden, better luck next Spring Festival ☺️.
Thanks for your time.
